2 inch BDS lift

Offset to backspacing calc is as follows if the wheel manufacturer doesn’t provide the backspacing number.

Wheel width plus 1" divided by 2
Then take the result and +/- the offset number given (convert mm to inches first).

So, the -22 offset is 3.6” of backspacing. You won’t need as much for the 11.5” wide 32’s as you would for the 12.5” wide 33’s.

How much would it cost to re-gear. I may do it later down the road, but I just want a good starting platform.

Why not just do it right the first time and have the tires, lift, and gears done at the same time? It’s just me and my .02 but I just dont like to rush things.

Because I know that I will end up opening a can of worms and wanting to do lockers and sway bars and steering stabilizers. I want to be able to do that down the road when I have more money. Who knows, maybe the gearing will be fine for my setup. Look at svtkyle on YouTube. He has 35s and no lift. His Jeep still scoots pretty good.

For 33’s and the 3.73, I’m with you. I wouldn’t do it either. For 32’s,I’m going to take my chances with the 6spd and 3.73 and see how she runs. I drove a bunch of combinations when test driving over the past couple months. I drove an LJ with the 3.73 and 31’s with the auto 4spd and it was ok. The 3.73 and 6spd with 32’s should be as good or better I would think?

35s, no lift, and factory gears? Just to counter that without starting an argument (Im trying to help) when Jeep increased the tire size from the factory TJ to the factory Rubicon, they re-geared it.

I do know, regearing is too often overlooked. And unfortunately ignorance is bliss. There have been many folks who increase tire size and opt not to regear and think it “feels” fine when driving. But as soon as they re-gear they relaize what they were really missing out on. Someone here had that happen to them personally however I dont rememeber which member it was that posted their personal experience with this issue.

Leaving power and torque on the table is your choice if you dont want to regear. I was only trying to help as stated.

Yes, I understand you are trying to help and I appreciate that, but I don’t have the money for that right now and that is why I want to do the re-gearing later when I have more money.

That’s just it. I don’t want to put way more $ into the rig than I will likely be able to get back out of it in say 2-3 years (within reason of course). For a 99% on-road Jeep, 2” suspension lift and 32’s makes the most sense to me. However, for someone with 3.07 gearing...I would not even suggest the 32’s and probably not even 31’s. Not sure if the guy on YouTube has 35’s with a 3.73 or not, but that is not wise. He definitely should be regearing.

Yeah, the guy on YouTube does no off-roading though, but it is still stupid. I was just trying to justify 32s on 3.73s should be safe.

I'm not familiar with his Jeep, but I recommend not copying that type of build. ;)

All I can say is he is easily pleased. Looks goofy to me, plus I cannot imagine the acceleration, as he states, is 'completely fine' with 35s and 3.73 axles.

Watch the video where he drives with them. It does move pretty good. It does look goofy though.

My Jeep is a daily driver. I am of the strong opinion that a street Jeep should be built with the same care and considerations as a trail Jeep. Maintaining suspension travel, good shocks, bump stops, axle gearing, etc are important no matter where you are.

Run 32 and 3.73 through Grimmjeeper. What do you see? I'm not saying you absolutely need to regear. Only that there is clear information to be gained by doing this.

I did watch that also. Like I said, he is easily pleased.

Personally, I think you would be fine with your manual transmission, axle-gearing wise, if you stick to 32" tires. I have those on my Rubicon with 4.11 axles, but I have the 42RLE automatic. It is fine in all four gears, just the overdrive is a little steep and kicks in too soon on the freeway, which can be handled with a switch.

It would move even better with the appropriate gears. Keep in mind that 1st gear isn't so much the problem. It's his final drive that is atrocious. Not using overdrive and constantly down shifting is not a fix. And more importantly, proper gearing makes the Jeep better across the board in every situation.

@Bruce20, you cannot do one modification and not affect something else. Lifting needs drive line improvements; larger tires need re-gearing, possibly brakes, possibly axle improvements; steering should be improved. Your current gearing should determine what tire size to consider. I would pass on anything larger than 31's unless you have 3.73, then you may get by with 32's.

Perfectly said. This is one of the big ideas most owners/builds dont grasp until later or learn the hard way.
