I'm new to the forum, so I apologize in advance if this isn't where to post this. I'm looking for some opinions on this pattern I just ran.
I'm regearing my LJ to 4.88 yukon gears and installing an ARB locker in the rear. The pictures attached have the latest patterns i just got and below are the current specs I'm running. I feel like I'm either good, or my pinion is just a little too far. Any guidance or pointers in the right direction would be great. Thanks in advance!

Pinion depth- .048

Pinion preload- about 15/16 in lbs

Backlash- 6

DS Shims- ARB shim, OEM shim, .0419 stack

PS Shims- ARB shim, OEM shim

Don't worry about pinion pre-load until you have the depth set. You are shallow. Make it go deep so you know what your bracket is. I'm guessing 5-7 thou should take you deep. Then show me pattern.
Below is the new pattern.
Unfortunately, my set up nut stripped out on me after a few times of coming on and off( the pinion threadsare fine thank God), so I couldn't really get any preload on the pinion. No stores have the nut in stock until tomorrow, unless anybody knows the size and maybe I can pick up one from Lowe's or home depot and use that for the rest of my set ups.
Here are the specs I'm running on this, but with there really being no preload on this, they probably aren't the most accurate

Pinion depth- .07
Backlash- about 6-8
DS- ARB shim, OEM Shim, .035 stack
PS- ARB shim, OEM shim

Excellent! We can now clearly see you are too deep. So your desired pattern resides somewhere in between the two. If you only changed it 7 thou, then that's easy to get dialed in.

I would suggest dropping 3-4 thou and rerun.

I grabbed a handful of nuts from my local Ace when I did my Dana 44 regear. If I recall the the size is 3/4-16. I only used them once or twice so that I wouldn't risk damaging the pinion threads.

Having issues uploading the photos right now, but just ran another pattern, and now I'm just a tad shallow. I'm gonna add a .005 shim to the pinion and I'm hoping that'll bring me where I need it to be. I'll rerun a pattern and upload all 4 photos once.
Specs i just ran:

Pinion depth- .06
Preload- 16"lbs
Backlash- 8
DS- ARB shim, OEM shim, .0213 stack
PS- ARB shim, OEM shim,.0046 stack

You're mind fucking me right now with all different patterns 🤣😂

Anyway, this one is a touch too deep, maybe 1-3 thou. Experiment and see.
😂 sorry, but I'm mind fucking myself with how many times I've redone the rear lol.
Ill try taking away 1-3 from the pinion tomorrow and post the pictures on here. Hopefully that gives your mind some time to recover lol
Appreciate all the help

That's why setting the bracket with shallow and deep is so important. That way you know for sure what that particular gear set is going to give you.

Didn't have time after work yesterday and been dealing with these storms out in eastern NC. New pattern is below. Feel like my drive side is getting closer to the heel edge after taking Shims out of the pinion again. Anyway, specs are below
Pinion depth- .062
Preload- 16
Backlash- 7
DS- ARB shim, OEM shim, .14 stack
PS- ARB shim, OEM shim, .048 stack

Don't worry about it getting out towards the heel a little, that happens often. Since this is your rear axle, we want to focus on the drive side. Your drive side looks pretty damn good to me. The coast side looks a touch deep but I would leave it as is.
