Anyone running 10.5” wide tires?

I think it would be beautiful, and very cool. For about $1500 I could get it done. Need to find a new air box and sort out the under hood details. I'd need chromoly front shafts, but that's about all. Later I'm sure I'd want some of those upper spring perch's that Kishpaugh designed to get up to 14" of travel. Haha. Another rabbit hole...

I ran 35x13.5x15 Toyo M/T's on my TJ with the 4 popper & 4.88 gears. I didn't have upgraded shafts or anything else at the time & was running a LocRite in the front. This was way before the TJ was transformed. You could get a 35X10.5 tire to cut down on weight?

It's a good idea a 35x10.5 is lower weight. I do have a back up set of shafts. Let's just see. I know I could use 35's up here. I look at you guys on the W side and I see guys here on the E side. They tend to run 37x13.5's over here. I'm the little guy. One guy said last year, "Is that stock?" 🙄

The only negative of a narrower tire is if you wheel predominately in loose stuff (sand, mud and fresh snow).

I would say that goes both ways. Some feel a tall narrow tire would dig down in the mud or snow to solid ground for better traction. Yes in sand the wider tire is going to work better.

I don't know about the Spokane area but here in central WA, still on the east side away from all those loons most run 33-35" tires. When I put the 38x12.5 tires on my TJ I had the biggest tires in my club. And it has been said by a LOT of people in my club that a 33" tire is all you need to run 95% of trails in WA. I tend to agree with that and think 35" tires are all you'll ever need. I started with 35" tires and the only reason I went bigger was because of the Hummv rims I decided to run.

I think the narrow tire is better overall for most stuff except during spring snow wheeling when you are trying to get up on top of the snow and float more than dig your way thru. But they've closed the woods to us for spring snow wheeling now so it really doesn't matter.

My avatar shows my almost 32" tires that are about 9-1/2" wide. I think they look fine and even off road they are doing great. The thinner they are, the more lbs per sq in they force onto whatever they are sitting on. In my experience, they dig into mud or snow and grab. It also helps on the pavement.

Here's a bigger copy of my avatar:

You can see what I got rid of as soon as possible after I bought this Jeep:

For west side ORV areas 33 are really small. The rocks will be biting you pretty good. Make sure you're armored well and you can winch across most stuff that might hang you up. Hah, ya I agree 33s looks stock.

I ran on a 33x10.50 KM2 for several years. The only complaint I had was with the specific tire (Terrible in wet weather), not the size. In fact, when I went to a 33x12.50 tire, I immediately noticed the additional rolling resistance and the Jeep would follow/track indentations in the road much more than it ever did with the 10.50 tire. Per what others have said, the drawback is primarily offroad, i.e. less contact patch.

That's a very good point. Since depth of snow/mud varies, it seems like most of those who enjoy wheeling in those environments prefer to go wider in order to 'float'. That and it seems that most prefer the look of the wider stance.

I live in an arid climate and enjoy dirt & rock with the occasional sand trip so I prefer a narrower tire. I have thought about going up from 31 to 32 but all 15" AT tires in that size are 11.5" wide which also adds a lot of extra weight.

in case you haven't seen enough yet, here's my first LJ on 33x10.5 KM2s, circa 2012.

I much prefer the visuals of the narrower stance as well as the reduced mud sprayed up on the side of the tub due to better coverage.

I don't do mud, but I believe the 10.5 and 12.5 in the same diameter to be functionally equivalent on hard surfaces, and I'd want to see actual lab quality test data before buying into the idea that the 12.5 would float better. Aired down to the same pressure, they should have the same contact patch area (the 10.5 will be longer and narrower vs shorter and wider with the 12.5).

I also like the idea of reduced weight and as-stock-as-possible scrub radius, though I lack the experience to know for sure that I can tell the difference. I know what a stock Jeep drives like and I know I like it, so I don't want to spend the value of a new set of tires to find out that I hate the way it drives.

I'm currently running 32x11.50 because I found a fantastic craigslist deal while shopping for 33s.

I went from 33x12.5 MT/Rs to 33x10.5 KO2s a couple years ago and I don’t regret it one bit. These tires do surprisingly well off-road also. I do my best to stay out of mud though.
here’s the best pic I have showing width. I can take more pics if you’d like tomorrow.
