I'm not too put off with the idea of rigging it up into a drill - it might be kinda fun. I've got that welder I should be better at using it solve metal-based problems!
You could get it consistent with some plumbers tape. I’ve cleaned my winch motor brush end that way several times. Drill spins the motor and the plumbers tape does the rest.

I called ECGS about the carrier pin not fitting in the new carrier. They said it happens sometimes and not an issue to make space for it. I hit it with the file on the hole it was catching on a tiny bit and hit it with my purse pretty hard and it made it through.

Looks there are two other teeth with chips, though smaller than the two in the picture. Shucks that is a bummer. I am not sure when this happened, but I went through the pics of when I pulled the locker a month or so ago and sure enough, there they are. I don't know why I didn't notice them, but they caught the headlamp today in a sparkly fashion.
I am guessing it would not be smart to put this in with all the work the gears will take. Cool. That sucks.
I guess I have the weekend to decide what to do about this. I am most likely going to order a replacement for now. I would love to order a selectable, but I would not want to buy a 27 spline locker, so if I get the 30 spline I need the super 30 kit... which ends up around 2500$. I don't have that kind of money right now.
I've ran this lunchbox for almost 4 years now, so I got my money's worth. They are 250$, and as more or less "maintenance" it seems like the right call to me for now. The worst part is I'll have to wait another week to get started on the gears, but I'm glad I caught this now and now on the trail in Moab.

Nice!! Not ornery. It's actually already done, he sent me pics, but I didn't want him to have to wait for me to drive back out when he would normally be off. Cool guy I am glad I called - he said he also has a CNC and can make cool stuff.
Interestingly he has a sign on his gate saying he's booked til 2026 - not 100% sure why he decided to hook me up and is excited to have me have him do stuff, lol. Maybe it's because I mentioned I was local. I tried to bring him a 6pack - he doesn't drink! He won't let me bring him lunch tomorrow either

Gunsmiths are like surveyors - every year, the average age of working surveyors increases by two or three years. That results in an ever-increasing workload for the guys still living and working. However, like everyone else, they get a bit bored doing the same thing over and over again. When you walk in with a project that's not a normal, routine task for them, it gives them a break and makes the day interesting.

I grew up in a small town and my dad was friends with the guy who ran the town fab shop (dude was the most amazing aluminum welder I have ever seen). He was sort of the same way - he was always booked when you spoke with him, but if you were a local he had almost infinite time and would bend over backwards for you.
That is cool! I am new to this small town stuff. Well, I guess Castle Rock was small when I was like, 5. The city lookin' worse and worse.
I've run lunchbox lockers before and you could theoretically run the locker until the teeth completely fail and then just swap it out, but that runs the risk of the metal from the teeth getting ground in the ring and pinion gears. Replacing it now is probably the smart choice.
Yeahh. My thought is that if it is gonna fail, it's probably gonna happen on a trail in Moab. Ruining my trip and costing a lot more than a new lunchbox.
Is what it is, I installed that in early '21 and got around 20k miles on it. I don't daily the jeep or anything so those are mostly to and from trails - funny enough with 5 trips to Moab, around 1/4 of the miles are specifically from driving to Moab and back.

Bet he wouldn't turn down some beef jerky if it was there! Glad you got it done though and have made his acquaintance in case you ever need something like that again. Definitely a good friend to have.
If you think about how it works those teeth slide up on each other and then drop back down again with it locks so a little metal missing IMO isn't going to hurt anything. If they were chipped or cracked I might be worried but from how they look I'd say you're fine.
