Forget the pictures, just Ohm it out. From the connector on the opposite end of the cable, the center conductor to the antenna mounting bracket (your unpainted part) should be open-circuit. The center conductor to the chrome coupling nut should be short-circuit. The outer conductor on the connector should be the opposite, i.e., short-circuit to the mounting bracket and open-circuit to the chrome coupling nut.I’ll take a better picture for you just so we can rule this out. Don’t want Occam’s Razor to strike again.
Something like that but as short as possible. I will speculate that if you just have a short ground strap to wrap around that nylon bushed hinge that you’ll be ok.

You've got it mounted correctly.In this photo you can see the shoulder of the firering, but next to it there is also a metal portion as well. When installed, that metal portion touches the antenna mounting bracket. Is that an issue?
I have installed it per their instructions, so I am not sure what else (if anything) I could do differently.
I have used some markup to point out the metal portion next to the shoulder that makes contact with the mount.

Looks oriented correctly, insure that nylon insulator you can see in the second photo is centered in its hole in the bracket to prevent the threaded stud from touching the bracket which would short the antenna to ground.
Okay, at least we ruled that out. Time to ground the mount in that case, I ordered some wire braids so hopefully that will do the trick.You've got it mounted correctly.

I doubt the MORryde carrier designers know or care about the first thing about the requirements of properly mounting CB antennas. Similar to Terraflex stupidly completely powder coating their antenna mounting brackets. Before you do anything....remove the tunable tip and tell me what the swr goes to.
Take the coil off and mount the antenna directly to the coupler on the mount. Redo the test and let me know the readingsJust did this and the SWR is 3 on channel 1 and 4 on channel 40.
That's dramatically lower than what it is when the tunable tip is on.
