Nervous about drilling into tailgate

If you are worried about drilling too deep, just slip a piece of hose over your drill bit, that will limit the depth. Works like a charm so you have no mistakes.

Put some grease on the drill bit tip to catch those shavings.

Set your drill bits on an old speaker magnet for about 20 seconds before you drill. Has worked for me for years. Just clean it off after and all done!

Thanx guys - never thought of that. I'm sure "some" gets through, but this would certainly beat a poke in the eye with a mascara brush!

just a word of caution, while the reassurance you're getting from these responses is appropriate for the tailgate, there are definitely places in your Jeep you shouldn't just drill through all willy-nilly.

LOL, yeah, we had a guy on the JT forum drill into a trim panel on the windshield frame, and he hit the CAN-BUS communication wire, disabled the truck until he repaired the wires...

Are you really wanting to drill holes in your Jeep that will be permanent - forever - so that you can hang some bags??

That's probably not a wholly different viewpoint. I always hesitate to compromise the factory paint and create a possible starting point for corrosion unless I have a really compelling reason to. And when I do, i take about every possible measure to ensure I've resealed it afterward.

Let us know once you get them installed and post some pics. I have thought about those and am very interested in how you like them.

They look great. You screw the back track on then slide the bags on the track and snap the end so they don’t slide out. Lots of room for jumper cables and tools. Thanks so much for the support!

This makes sense. So does taking care of the unbelievable number of starting points for corrosion that the factory has provided.
