As was mine. Both Metalcloak and Patagonias are garbage!![]()
Why? The extra unsprung weight carried that low will lower the CG and improve stability. Plus it is a super tough rear end good to over 1200 Hp with the right parts.I would recommend installing 9"housing ends so you can eliminate the C clips on the axles. Bonus you can grab the rear brakes from a Crown Vic and get 11" rear disk brakes in the deal.

Also, it's not about horsepower - it's about torque. And not torque from the engine, but rather torque to the axle shafts. My rig makes no where near 1200 ponies, but it throws about 50,000 foot pounds to the axle shafts. No way an 8.8 would hold up to that.
Your rig must be pretty heavy if it takes 50,000 lb/ft of torque to move it.Just sayin.

No tj needs big rear discs and less ground clearance.if you want weight down low fill your tires like a tractor or use these-

Beg to differ. The weight difference between an 8.8 and a Dana 30 is only 20 lbs and the pumpkin is only 2" larger so only a single inch of ground clearance is lost. Easily fixed with 2" bigger tires and finally how can anybody who has driven a TJ say that it doesn't need more and better brakes?![]()
Hey guys thanks for your input on this. Sounds like the overall best answer is just to keep the axles I have and build them stronger. What about lockers or LSD int Dana 30 and 35?

And someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you could avoid the Super35 using an LSD for 35s.
