5.38
what about 5.13s with the 42RLE and 35s?
Nope, I would go with 5.38 if I was going to run 35" tires.
I'm running 4.88 gears on my 42RLE with 33" tires. Don't get me wrong, it's actually really, really nice. I just think my personal preference would be one step lower if I could do it again (so 5.13). However, that's contrary to what most people would recommend with my setup (which would be 4.88), so consider that this is my personal opinion / preference.
So if I went with 35" tires on my 42RLE, I personally would run 5.38 gears. However, 5.13 would probably be the most commonly recommended gearing for that setup.
Nope. At 70 you'd be spinning about 2700 rpm. With the 4:1 case it'll be a crawling mo-foAhhh I see ok. But I have 33s now. And I have to regear. So regearing to 5.38 with 33s will trash my transmission won’t it?
Curious man, have you had them installed? Did it yourself or took it in? After quotes I recieved around here in Colorado I'm fed up with the fluctuation in price and overselling the deed of gear install.Received my 4.10 gears from AOR today
And I pulled the trigger and ordered truetrac locker for rear of my TJ. Now I gotta decide if I’m gonna tackle the job or hire out! Thanks AOR!!

Not a bad price at all my friend. You ever get them installed and did you stick with 4.56?So I got a quote from an offroad shop here locally.
Dana 30 master install kit $104.99
Dana 44 master install kit $118.99
Dana 44 4.56 ring and pinion $191.99
Dana 30 4.56 ring and pinion $180.99
Labor $75 @ 6 hours
roughly 1100 after taxes
To have a warranty on the hardware and labor is worth that to me to keep from having to do it myself. Is this an average price you guys are seeing? I only have a handful of shops that I would trust to do this around here. And I've narrowed it down to these guys. The first 2 said I don't need carriers or thicker gears for the Dana 44 coming from 3.73 to 4.56 so naturally they've been scratched off the list. And frankly, these guys didn't mention it either, but I've seen their work at all the jeep functions and its top notch as well as a couple of first hand accounts in dealing with them. This was talking to a salesman as well, so maybe his knowledge base doesn't cover Tj's.
Sure did. Love themNot a bad price at all my friend. You ever get them installed and did you stick with 4.56?
Nice, any regrets not going deeper to 4.88? Just curious, I’m two steps shy from making this move and looking to confirm my thoughts. Did you take it in or do it yourself?Sure did. Love them
I took it in, because I'd never put lockers in before and I wanted some kind of warranty. I'm glad I didn't go deeper, because I still travel quite a bit and it's just right on the highway now pulling my camping trailer.Nice, any regrets not going deeper to 4.88? Thanks for the reply man. I just pulled the trigger on it today and they will be installed in a few days. I really wanted to do this myself and take my time doing it, but I can't bare the 3.37s with 33"s anymore. Eventually, I will have fun putting in some lockers, deeper gears, and hitting the rocks. Glad you like your setup man.I took it in, because I'd never put lockers in before and I wanted some kind of warranty. 4.56 gears work great.Folks, I’m new here...apologies if I missed something. I’ve got an ‘02 TJ with 5 spd, 4.0 with 3.73 front and rear and 33’s that the previous owner put on. I’ve got to regear, as I do more daily driving than off road and occasionally pull a light utility trailer in highway driving. And man, does it bog down on the hills! Can I get a solid recommendation for a new gear ratio from y’all?
X2, 4.56 is ideal for 33's with the 5-speed and 4.0 engine.4.56 gears work great.
Proof...... i have a 97 5 speed 4.0l with 33×12.5r15. And love each and every gear. 75 mph in 5th gear @2750 rpm.
