The good news thread

Did my second blood test (doing one every three months) to keep track of my diabetes A1c number, and for the second time, it is at 5.7 (down from the original 7.5 at the end of April). Also have dropped 60 pounds, and getting my bad cholesterol number down. Want to drop another 25 pounds by my next blood test, which is February 17th. It's getting more difficult (the plateaus seem to last longer), but in the grand scheme of things, it's keeping that A1c number down that's the most important to me.

It's all got me feeling pretty good, and I'm looking forward to keeping it trending in the right direction.

Awesome, hard work losing weight and keeping it off. You should be real proud of your progress, keep it up. Seeing positive results help with the motivation.

You are inspiring. I'm trying to do the same thing for the same reasons.

Today was the first time in weeks I was able to spend time with Owen and Eli. O got himself a haircut since I saw him last and E has been exceling in school. The past couple of weekends Mrs. Cheesy and I have been setting a game room in the basement and E has approved. I kicked his butt on the Wii. O just sat and watched while playing games on grandmas' Ipod.

I should add that O and I were having a Ninja sword battle when a mouse appeared out of nowhere. I chased it into hiding with my big foam sword while Mrs. Cheesy had a meltdown.
I know what happened in The Great Mouse Hunt movie, so we are having none of that.:) Traps are baited and set. Now I wait. Mrs. Cheesy is being quite impatient that I get that mouse out of HER house.
I offered to go Rambo after it with my 7mm Remington mag but I told her it wasn't a good idea in the long run. Neither was the .303. Too long for close quarters.

I moved out of the Marriott and into my apartment in Ankara yesterday. I managed to get internet service started yesterday too. Both went smoothly, which isn't the norm because outside of food, beer, and whiskey I have a hell of a time communicating with the locals here. And, today the Turkish government's new, pita covid restrictions kicked in.

The hunt is over. Well, not for the mouse. That is still ongoing and probably will be for awhile. Kind of satisfying watching Mrs. Cheesy squirm over something so small. Thing is, if and when I catch the little turd, I still won't be the hero.

Anywho, I have been looking for a small benchtop drill press since we moved last year. Everything I have looked at has a limited number of speeds and the lowest speed is way too high for what I need. Or, the price was stratopheric. Today, though, I scored an older Rockwell variable speed 3/8" benchtop press for $55. Found it at Habitat for Humanity ReStore, which is where a lot of my benchtop tools have come from lately. I have found that older used tools seem to be a lot nicer than brand new.

Kimberly & I celebrated a pretty big milestone today, rather than going out we hung out in the back yard & built a nice fire, spent all day listening to music, tending the blaze & just enjoying the beautiful fall weather. Assembled some pretty tasty stuff, turns out the star of the show was the homemade baguette with Kerrygold Irish butter, somehow I’ve managed to never taste the stuff until today, went beautifully with the fresh bread. What a day:

by the way if you look real close you can see dessert hidden behind the bread basket, a small bowl of Peanut Butter Pie Oreos

the families from the eastern and western sides of the state gathered in Lancaster County Pennsylvania Amish Country on Friday for my daughter's wedding rehearsal followed by the wedding on Saturday, happy to say it went off without a hitch; we had perfect weather throughout (mostly sunny & mid-50s) & the venue was amazing, a wedding barn, fitting for the backdrop. I now have a son-in-law, a fine young man, military like my daughter and also a newly minted full time police officer. These two will go far together. Just a couple photos, I'm looking forward to the professional shots though:

Congratulations @Westtown Willy!

My daughter and son-in-law came into the room on Thanksgiving day wearing these shirts announcing some great news. As they have already made me a grampa with their wonderful little daughter (now 2 and a half years old), I couldn't be more pleased. :)
