New Motobilt 4-Link Suspension

Overall I like my front from them, but it did require mods to make it what it should have been for a modified rig. Deeper deck and no laser cutout M.

In the world of steel stubby bumpers they really are pretty good. And we made ours a lot better.

Uptravel definitely was not a priority with that design.

I haven't dug into it, but the previous design, folks were getting 6 inches up in the front with the motobilt 4 link kit.
Edit: while using the motobilt front half frame swap which is a no brainer for more up travel and packaging.

No defending motobilt blindly. Just appreciate deeper conversation and discussions about it without guessing or speculating, which seems to be the case for this thread.

We don't need a front half frame kit to get 6" up on a 4" spring lift.

Agreed, as Jerry has stated numerous times, his jeep has a bolt on lift and he tackles some of the toughest trails in johnson valley.

It comes down to desired tire size, then the appropriate wheel base to support that tire size, belly height and finding parts that support it. And this kit is geared more towards the builder who wants something more than 35’s.

In your opinion, what’s the limit for short arms in regards to tire size?

That is a multifaceted question that has less to do with a specific tire size than it does with peripheral aspects that often accompany a given tire size.

Well, we are on a TJ forum so I'll assume we don't want the latter. The shovel is a travesty of the original design.

Yet we have so many options that maintain a less offensive looking shovel that have impressive marketing behind them to make us feel good about keeping it. 🤣

I will agree with that.

Makes me wonder how much can be sucked in if doing a v8 swap, with a trans and transfercase to support it without cutting into the tub.

All the while supporting a bigger tire and wanting more than 190hp at the crank

Have you read @toximus 's thread? Only minor cutting required to do it well.

And lots of beating

For sure. I just think people want to seem like they're doing a bunch to make something work when much might be unnecessary, even detrimental, with a well thought out build. The frame kits from MB seem to be far into that end of the spectrum. The front half kits don't even support an AR or SL, intentionally, which more than makes them useless in my book.

I’m shooting for 7” up with the TJ front frame but we’ll see how that goes.

I’m strongly considering a few slices in the tj floor to level the atlas and weld in some filler panels. But not there yet.

Cutting and patching the floor is not bad. For me, the challenge there was modifying the drivers side fold and tumble seat bracket to clear the tucked Atlas, while still keeping it functional.

But, ya gots ta do it….

I figured I’d confer with you on it when I get closer.
