Glad you were able to find this thread, and I'm glad it worked out for you as well!

We can all thank Al Gore and the corn in our gas for this conundrum!

While i had to drop the tank to replace the fuel pump. I was able to remove the stuck valve and file off a slight bit of plastic from the "guides". Works like a charm and it only cost me labor.

Never knew there was a fix for this! Stumbled across this thread, ordered the part and bam! Problem solved! I ordered a fuel neck off of an 05 Jeep on eBay a long time ago for our Jeepster. It is actually using a TJ tank, and recessed fuel neck instead of factory. Trying to find OEM parts is a pain for Jeepsters so that's why we went with the a newer style. Since it has been done (first of 2015 is when we completed it) we have had to hold the trigger to make sure it wouldn't over flow on our new paint job. Well luckily I found this so we can finally solve that problem! Will get it installed sometime soon and be good to go again! Thanks again for the great write up!

How much work is it to pull the tank? I have to do mine, the flapper hose isn't cutting it:(

Not too difficult. It took about an afternoon. I had to replace the fuel pump anyway. You have to be somewhat of a contortionist to get the valve out of the tank.

@CabbageVendor , so how do you get the damn cage off? Been trying to get it off without breaking anything to no avail.

Rob5589,
It would help if you had a 2nd elbow ;>). I used a small screwdriver like the ones used in electronics work to kinda pry one side of the "cage". after that it just popped off. The plastic used seemed to be very resilient to breakage. I was concerned about it breaking also. Then I just took a jewellers file and worked the "guides" until the valve floated free. I got the idea after watching this video.
Let me know how you make out.

Would it cause a problem just removing the factory plunger and rely on the GM flapper to do the job?

I am disappointed to report, it didn't work:mad::(

I don't get sprayed all over with gas but, it fills SO SLOW. Took a good 5+ mins to get in just over 5 gals. I was so pissed I stopped and went home. Don't know what else it could be.

I pulled the filler hose to check the valve. Moves smooth and freely with very light pressure. The only other thing I can think of is however it purges air when being filled is possibly plugged. Other than that, I am at a loss.

Any way of going back to the old hose? I did not replace the filler hose with the GM hose. No issues. Could be a problem when using both. I know its a PIA.

I considered that actually. May as well give it a try. I also used a vacuum pump to check the vent line and it is not plugged so likely not that.

Thanks

Ok, so I pulled out the charcoal can in the left wheel well, all was good and free flowing. So I went ahead a busted out the flapper from the GM hose. Its plastic, broke right out. Got some gas, slow at first, then locked the nozzle on full and stood back by the hood :D
It went all the way to full and clicked off without an unleaded shower. Smiles all around but, it is only one fill up so I am knocking on wood. The only thing I could figure was the flapper wasn't exactly straight up so when the fuel passed over it, it was closing it off. For now all is happy once again in TJ town :D

I can't for the lift of me get the old filler hose off..? The clamps are very loose what am I doing wrong
