Picking up where I left off

When adding the PSC hydro-assist setup to the 03-06 models, you either have to modify your factory steering shaft as Blaine has mentioned, or you need to get a steering shaft from a 97-02 model.

You can see the difference below:

The 97-02 shaft is pictures on top and the 03-06 below. You can see how much shorter the 97-02 steering shaft is, but otherwise they are mostly the same.

I'm not sure how you modify your 03-06 shaft, but Blaine told me that they just use 97-02 shafts to make the job easier. For the price, I think it's a no brainer. Also, it doesn't hurt to have a new steering shaft anyways.
I missed his comment. Why do you need to change the shaft?

Mine is an 03-06 where the steering shaft is longer. This new PSC steering box is much longer than the factory unit and therefore requires a much shorter shaft.

Makes sense. I didn't even think of that being an issue. Good thing I have a 01 or I would have been scratching my head over that for a while during the install.

Any news on the prp seats?

Yep, I would have been stumped too had Blaine not mentioned it.

No news from PRP. Those guys seem to be completely MIA.

My new shaft is on its way

With the exception of a few minor tweaks, this is what I am planning for the roll bar:

I am planning not to go behind the dash and just go to the windshield frame itself, much like the stock sport bar.

After reading Blaine's comments about how long it takes to remove the dash with the GenRight cage (since it ties in behind the dash), I think I'd rather not have to deal with that possibility in the future, should I need to remove the dash.

I've also learned today that PRP does not send shipment notifications, things just randomly show up.

No seats, but my harnesses I ordered the other day showed up today. No tracking, no shipping confirmation, just randomly showed up

This actually has been happening to me a lot recently. Although normally it’s drop shipped items, weird when it’s coming from them.

I don't know about the GenRight dash but the Poison Spyder cage the way the stanchions fit without pulling my cage I don't know that I could get the dash out.

I thought if you ran through the dash, the dash would pull forward. No? I don’t know enough about what all is behind the trim on the dash to know but for some reason I thought I may have seen that posted before.

See the piece on the corner in front of the dash? On the Poison Spyder cage it's bigger.

This is why I was planning to just run the cage directly into the window frame like the factory does it. Is this a bad idea?

I don't think the windshield frame is as strong as a cage plus I like to put my windshield down on the really dusty trails. It's easier to clean my glasses than my windshield.

So I wanted a stand alone cage. I would wonder if you could leave that piece off?

I’ll never put the windshield down. I’ve seen some people roll their TJs down huge hills and while the window was destroyed, they were okay. This leads me to believe the factory wouldn’t have made it this way if it was an issue. Maybe I ought to just keep it factory from the B-pillar forward and then do the fastback from there on back.

I have the Sport Cage from PS so the front is all replaced so I'd trust it over the windshield frame. I've see a few frames that have gone thru a rollover too. While they did OK I'd still rather have a cage.

Why not do a thru the dash bars on the front? That would go to the floor and still allow you to pull the dash.
