Picking up where I left off

Bad news for the header install:

https://wranglertjforum.com/threads...e-header-system-without-cats-brand-new.48574/
This photo was taken at ride height. This wouldn't have been an issue if it wasn't for the mid-arm. The upper control arm on the mid-arm is much longer than a short arm and at a different angle. This causes the arm to crash into the headers with anymore than an inch of up-travel.

I was the test dummy for finding out if this would work on a mid-arm setup so at least we now have an answer. If it was a short arm setup I wouldn't have an issue.

Bummer!

I couldn’t resist re-posting this post I found by @Chris in November of 2018 about the 42rle.

“In addition, most of us (myself included) would not consider the 42RLE an upgrade to the 32RH. I'd rather have a 32RH any day over my 42RLE, which is a horrible transmission to begin with.

The 42RLE never belonged in any Wrangler in the first place. It's extremely steep .69 overdrive gear ratio is horribly thought out. The transmission is ALWAYS hunting for overdrive, never knowing if it wants to be in 3rd gear or 4th. It does this to the point where it's mind-numbing. While it can be not as bad with the proper gearing, it's still nowhere near perfect.

This transmission was designed fro FWD Dodge vehicles as I understand, and again, never belonged in a Wrangler to begin with. Jeep put it there (this is my understanding) as a means to satisfy EPA regulations with the overdrive gear.

It's an absolute joke of a transmission. @psrivatswill agree with me on this.

The ONLY good thing about the 42RLE is the fact that you can put a RubiCrawler behind it. Other than that, I'd happily trade mine for a 32RH any day. Consider yourself lucky!”

🤣

You’ve got to be careful with what you read on these forums.

With the swap to the 42RLE, will you be getting a new tune from FlyinRyan? If so, I'm curious if you'll be doing a before and after comparison and review for us.

I’ll be getting a new tune, yes.

I’ll give a review for sure. I am going to have him adjust the shift points and see if perhaps I can make the transmission behave better.

I will be stoked to see how you like the tuned shift points. I would be down for that, you can be the test subject around here though.

I havent been following this thread much, so sorry if its been covered, but have you talked to jerry about the transgo shift kit for the 42RLE? I remember seeing him talk about it and how it helped said issues

Not to crap on anyone's parade but they hang down below the oil pan where they go around the front of it. Even if I could have cut the mount loose on the truss and moved the arm over to the outside enough (big maybe), I would have had to drop the engine skid down 3-4" at the front. Fuck those pieces of shit and the goddamn horse they rode in on. All they had to do was flatten the collector front to back and tuck it in close to the block and they would have been almost fine. Instead, they offset them almost 2" away from the block and made a collector the size of 7 primary tubes in a circle.

Haven’t talked to him about it and don’t know anything about it or what problems it supposedly solves. I’ll have to look into it though.

Hey does one get ahold of flying ryan? I emailed about 2004 TCM capability but never got a response.

A long time ago when I was running a stock 42, I installed the Transgo kit. For me, the juice was definitely not worth the squeeze. I noticed almost no difference - perhaps the shifts were just a bit firmer - but it did nothing for the real problems with the 42.
