Picking up where I left off

All of the ones I've experienced are not what I would call harsh. They do a pretty good job of taking the sting out of bigger events, it is the small events that suck. Coarse pavement, small rocks, gravel, pocket change laying in the road, all show up as annoying when the tires run over them. That isn't harshness though.

Just put on 5100's and this is exactly what I am feeling. Feels like something is wrong with the Jeep as the road surfaces change. You feel all the small stuff. Thought I had vibrations after installing them, but it's just the shocks transmitting the road surface. Drove on smooth, new asphalt and the Jeep feels perfect.

Need to mount some Metal Cloak Duroflext joints on top of the shock, that'll fix'em right up.

Managed to get the winch and headlights installed this afternoon (it’s amazing what can be accomplished when kids are in school!).

The GenRight fenders should give me a very convenient place to mount the ARB compressor. I haven't drilled the holes yet, but it seems to fit just fine. My only concern would be that there is room for the PSC reservoir.

"Small events" is a good way to describe them.
Jittery has been my experience. I can also make my rear Foxes with an AllTech TJ tune jittery by cranking up the adjusters.

Awesome ride! Never heard of the Golden Stroker before, excited to see the end result. I am curious if you would need to do any modifications/upgrades to your transmission to handle the increase in power? Other than installing a transmission cooler, is there any way to improve these transmissions (manual/auto)?

Somebody not on work comp google "golden stroker" with safe-search off.

The transmission will handle a Golen stroker just fine, no upgrades necessary.

Other than a transmission cooler there is no real way to improve these transmissions, but that’s fine because there is nothing that needs to be improved. They work just fine the way they are and will handle an extra 100 HP just fine. As with most things, it comes down to the driver.

Did you get a quote for painting the doors? I called several places and none of them wanted to paint the doors without painting the adjacent panels as well, so I decided to do it myself.

No, but I know a guy here in Gilbert who will do just the doors. If I had a paint booth, I'd certainly do them myself though (y)

My guess is that I'll end up paying $400.

Are you still thinking about doing the fenders/armor?

Hey Chris,

Just curious but have you thought about going to the Tremec TR4050 5-speed transmission? I'm personally not a fan of the NSG370 in my LJR, can't stand the transmission and I'm debating upgrading to that Tremec TR4050 in my LJR, though for me it would cost just about as much as I paid for my LJR

I only ask since you are wanting to go with the Stroker, I have to wonder if the 6:16:1 first gear would really help with crawling with bigger tires in your TJ.

You would have 4.88:1 axles X 4:1 transfer case x 6.16 first gear would give you a 120.24:1 crawl ratio which would be wicked!

I know you have a NV3550 which is much better than the NSG370 (in my opinion), I really can't stand that transmission, and I believe you have an overdrive of would be nearly identical, I think yours is a .78:1 and the Tremec is a .76:1 so it wouldn't be a huge difference.

Looking forward to seeing how your TJR transforms and I'm looking forward to seeing it in Moab as well!

This one has the NV3550 which in comparison to my NSG370 in my other TJ seems similar in some ways, but the shifting seems looser (not as tight as the NSG370) and the first gear is slightly more usable. Driving them back-to-back though, they really feel very similar.

Does the Tremec TR4050 actually bolt-in, or do you need an adapter and other things? I honestly hadn't even heard about that until now. If it were to bolt-in, my main question would be would it still work with the NP241OR transfer case, and is it actually longer or shorter in length compared to my NV3550?

So it's a kit that bolts to both your engine and transfer case from my understanding, I'm still trying to go through all the documents I got with my quote. From my understanding it comes with a bell-housing that adapts the transmission to the engine, so technically an adapter but the adapter is the bell-housing.
