Picking up where I left off

I'm glad to see you had a chance to take it on some trails. I bet you're happy you chose to keep it after/during the run.

The PSC system w/Blaine's kit is an amazing kit on/offroad.

Yes, I don’t think you could have taken anything with less than 33s on that trail without doing serious damage.

I am also very glad I have a 241 transfer case. It came in handy to say the least.

This has been a good read during a very long work meeting on Zoom. I look forward to your continued work with your build. And it is good to hear that the HP Tuners tune has worked out well so far. That is something I have been considering to allow for some better power and tuning on my rig as well. Keep up the good updates.

This tune is amazing, simply put.

I've put about 200 miles on it since loading the tune, and I can tell you it has completely transformed my opinion of the 4.0. Sure, it still could use more power, but this tune really, really woke the engine up.

For those of you who don't have this tune, I promise you, you don't know what you're missing.

Once I get these headers installed, I'm expecting even more of a boost.

I'd like to hear what your fuel mileage is doing also along the way.

Hard to say, it's sucked since day 1. I guess I'll have to pay attention to how many miles I can go on a tank.
I'm at 12-13mpg, mixed driving, with a similar setup so anything better or worse would likely be the tune. Per tank is a fairly subjective number since our fuel gauges lie to us and want to be filled with 5 gallons still in the tank

Yep, I've never had a TJ that didn't show as being almost empty when there was 5 gallons left.

I track all my mileage with the Fuelly app. 12 is a good day.

Yeah, that's honestly about what I expect.

You can't get good MPG out of a vehicle with some of the worst aerodynamic ever and lots of weight.

That's why the electric craze puzzles me. It makes sense in some applications, but even if you stick an electric drivetrain in a Wrangler, you're still fighting terrible aerodynamics, loads of weight, huge tires, etc.

Basically it's going to suck your battery really quickly unless you're just doing slow speed crawling off-road.

I wonder if those of us with a @Wranglerfix will ever have an option other than an engine swap.

Good to hear the tune was not a disappointment. A good improvement in performance with out getting your hands dirty or even opening the hood. What octane gas are you running?

Not a disappointment at all, I'm more than impressed. And since I only had to pay $350 (I had an HPTuners MPVI2 from previous vehicles), I think it's a hell of a good price for the increased drivability.

I'm running 87 on this tune, but he said if I wanted he could make me a tune for 91. I'm not sure how much of a difference it would make though given the low compression of the 4.0. Have you tried playing around with 87 and 91 on different tunes? Was there any gains to be noticed?

Once you stop putting your foot in the floor I wonder with you MPG will be like?

I don't know about the 4.0 but the difference between the 87 & 91 tunes on the Magnum V-8 is suppose to be great.

My tune is now where near as refined as FRP's. I did not put any effort in higher octane tuning. I have tried pushing my 87 oct tune and ran into some mild pinging. Instead of backing off the tune I added 93 oct and pinging went away. Power did seem slightly better, but not worth the extra money in gas price. In my opinion as low as the compression ratio is you can get too aggressive with timing and lose power even though there are no signs of abnormal combustion. At that point higher octane will not help.

If the 87 oct tune is just a stock tune there is likely room for improvement. Four points of octane should not make much difference on the same engine.

I have no experiance with FRP tunes yet. I am just going off what others have posted on the Dodge forums when they talk about running the 87 tune and then throwing in the 91 tune. I'm sure there is more to the two than just 4 points of octane.
