What was your first Jeep?

Every MFG. was struggling with emissions and everybody had 500' of Vacuum line in every car. My new 83 GMC 2.8l V-6 T-15 had an amazing 115 h.p. to go with 500' of vacuum line.

Best move I made on all my CJ's was to pull the factory 2 barrel and install a 2 barrel webber carb.

Always carried WD40 to spray out the distributor cap after a fast water crossing too.

But lord no CEL, no ECM and no O2 sensors sure was freaking nice!!!!!!

The first jeep I drove was a '54 CJ-3B. The second was a '49 Willys.

The first jeep I purchased with my own money was a '65 Kaiser CJ-5 with factory V-6 and Warn overdrive, shown here in 1972 or 1973.

1953 CJ3B. Bought it in high school around 1983. I learned a whole bunch of things never to do with that thing! The speed limit was only 55 back then. I bet it's really a PITA to deal with the gearing on those things now.

I started with a 2012 JKU Sport. I built it up ready for 37's and gears (but was still on 35's). I took it to the Hammers and got stuck on most things that the TJ's were just cruising through.

Decided I wanted an LJ. I ended up trading my JKU for my LJ. This was fun because the PO was in Missouri and I'm in California. So we planned to meet in New Mexico to swap Jeeps. The LJ was manual trans when I got it. I didn't know how to drive manual. So I paid another Jeeper/friend to go with me and teach me to drive manual on the way back.

My first jeep was a 1977 CJ7 with 304 V8, a Turbo 400 trans and a Quadra-Trac transfer case. It had 4" springs and a spring over axle with 40" ground Hawgs.
It was a death trap on wheels. It handled like shit, wouldn't stop worth a dam. It did look really cool though.
I got it on a trade for one of my dirt bikes.

86 CJ7 with a 258 and one of the rare Dana 44 rear ends back in 90 or 91. About the same color as my current TJ as my wife likes to point out. Always wish I had never let that go.

1979 CJ5, 304, 3-speed; faded yellow and rust.
Bought it in 1988 when there still wasn't very many jeeps on the road.
I think I paid about $2000.
It was rough, but it fit me perfect.

77 J20 with 360 v8, quadra trac. had switch in glove box for vacuum operated lockers. That truck was a beast. Goodyear wrangler mudders that thing would go anywhere. It come up missing when my buddy parked it while hunting in Texas on the border of Mexico.

My first Jeep is my '03 TJ X that I got last month. I had a '69 Scout in HS and my buddies had Jeeps, but then I got into motorcycles. Finally got too old and went back to 4 wheels. I really love the TJ and been doing some stuff. It has a 2 1/2" lift, so added a track bar bracket and have an adjustable bar for the front. Also got stuck the second week, so it now has a 12k winch. Spring 91 Freshman year at SFA in East Texas, 1am Back of a truck that flipped doing 65 mph, one of many times God had a different plan for me. Long crazy story, but all ended up alright.

Buddies insurance gave me $4k to not get a lawyer.

I immediately spent it all on my 1978 CJ5 with the 304 and 3 speed. I put a Holley 4 barrel on it, 35” BFG Mud Tires, and God was with me on two wheels, and on No wheels a couple times jumping over a Levy top. I was crazy, and He looked after me, not sure why.

Drove my girl for 5 years, two with no top whatsoever, ha. Drove it daily for 3 months with almost zero brakes, added fluid almost every other day, until I could put new lines all the way through and a front caliper I basically blew up flying through a mud hole with stumps.

1978 CJ5 it was a 3 speed manual with the 6 cyl. 258 I believe. I bought it in 1994, it was full of rust. It was Tan in color. I re-painted it Black with Spray cans in 1995 and it looked really good for about a year. Wish I had known about clear coating back then. LOL I sold it when we were building our new house in 1999 and went jeep less until 2009 when I bought the TJ I have now.

‘97 XJ. I really wanted a Wrangler but couldn't afford it. I really liked the XJ, if another came up reasonably I would consider.
