Where to get a new or rebuilt PCM?

Has anyone ever tried using a rebuilt one from autozone. I know it is wrong to even talk about them. But it seems like they do sell remanufactured pcm/ecm for jeep wranglers. Cost is around 300 bucks with a core charge.
To be honest im not sure why i even noticed that they sold them. Im not even sure who the get them from.

Could be a location thing, what did you search I could be typing something wrong but no joy here in California, I searched both 2005 and 2006 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 with the same disappointing result message.

Auto Zone lists a California legal ignition tuner that they say will fit the tj. That is if it doesn’t screw other things up knowing how picky the electrical on these things are. Anyway not looking for performance boost, but they claim to give you control of the transmission shift points among other things. Anyone have any experience with these things, would it be any help with the hard shift between first and second gear?

Dont know i just looked at my 97 4.0l 5 speed manual in Arizona. But i also did look at orileys they carry the same company. Prices seem to fluctuate.

Orilies auto list 4 different PCM’s for the 2005-2006 year models $450 + $50 core charge, but only one the 6044702ad is listed as in stock. Mine is the R6044703AD, don’t know what the difference is between the 702 and the 703 perhaps has something to do with security features?

G7 computer responded to the question regarding what they did:

There was a faulty resistor detected and addressed.

The shifting is much better from 1 to 2 than it had gotten.

Bill, thank you so much for the info and updates on your tj, keeping my fingers crossed for you.

We were living on an RV trip with the jeep the next day, it would not start at a store here in town. Call AAA and truck took me & jeep to their mechanic, he said it was the EMC so took it home and went on trip with out jeep. (it was the ING act switch). But before we left for 3 weeks I first google it, the prices were all over the place! So I removed the ECM took it to the only store in town O'Relly. They sent it out for test & rebuild, 4 weeks later Installed it and found it was the ING switch, fixed it and all worked (it had a note to program it, and not a word it was not bad) took it to local shop, they checked it out and it was already done, no charge. "Do not replace the EMC until you are sure:

My PCM is showing P0106. That means that the next issue is with my 42LE transmission shifting. No new are available from MOPAR until estimated 12/31/2018. When ever I am told end of the year I get nervous. Also that costs 999.99. Ouch. Looked for a rebuilt. Nope none available. Finally found a shop in NY that does rebuilds. Now hoping....

When new was ridiculously expensive the first place, Dex, my mechanic, looked was online to eBay and Amazon.
The last resort was the salvage places. The used engine for my Tundra was shipped across country. I bet there are Jeep salvage specialists all over the country.

I know this sounds crazy but I got my PCM out of Italy off eBay. I made sure to get a none SKIM model disconnected the module and plugged in the new PCM and everything was totally fine.

I am wondering about a couple of things after reading this thread. One thing is that my '04 Wrangler (4 cyl w/ stick shift) only shows a part number of "56044" on the label. No other letters or numbers. It does, however, show a TEM0354SGGHU and a Motorola P/N 12A460SGGHU. I thought the p/n of 56044 should have been longer. Maybe, as an example, 56044455AB ?

Also, I read about some guys replacing their ECM when it was not the actual problem. If the ECM fails, does the Jeep throw a code that could be read via the OBD2 port on a scanner ?

I could totally be wrong, and someone please correct me if I am, but I think if you have a tj the was built before 2005 you can replace the pcm / ecu with one from another tj (i.e. One from a junkyard). If you have a Jeep made after '05 the vin must be programmed in. My jeep is starting to sputter and sometimes stall when I am stopped and the engine is idling. I read a post where the original poster was having the same issue, tried a bunch of stuff, and finally replaced the ecu, which fixed it.

I found this company, which seems to be a low risk. They charge $400 for a refurbished ecu and offer a lifetime warranty once you send them your old one. https://carcomputerexchange.com/jee...veFokXU7AoHvi5bmILHdxr5shI3J0LgBoCfXIQAvD_BwE

Reading this thread has tempered my enthusiasm after just buying my 2006 Automatic Rubicon with 36k miles. I’m a noob, so is this a wear and tear issue? Or is it just a random failure?

I wouldn't be worried. I've owned two 2005s and haven't had the issue.

It's more of just a random failure issue, but it's not as common as you'd be led to believe. Remember... all you read on the internet is negative thing. For every 1 person who has had a PCM issue, there's probably 1000 who haven't. You just don't hear from those who haven't.

Solution as in lifetime warranty from a reputable company? I'd rather not pay the dealership $1300 for a new one + lifetime warranty, but if that means reliability then I would. Did you send it into a place to have it remanned/re-soldered?
