Any advice before I drill frame drain holes?

If only you were talking to whoever owned it 16 years ago. I wish they had done it.
16 years ago, every clown from all subdomain corners of the internet would come to claim to have 20 years of mechanical experience and PhD in metallurgy to school on perfection of factory design, rocket science behind modern day metallurgy, and how back in his days nothing ever rusted and outlived his grand kids. Anyone with that suggestion would have been shitted on, called every form of "dumb" in English language, made fun of for destroying perfectly fine frame, degraded against superiority of Chrysler engineers and then banned from the forum for spreading misinformation and stupidity.

Close your eyes while you are looking up.
safety glasses are your friend ! trust me i know, chips fly and drill bits shatter. it's painful as hell if you have to go get a chip removed from your eye ! you'd swear to god their removing your eyeball and cleaning it, and dont think it will just come out on it's own ! a co worker of mine thought he'd gotten one out, 2 days later went to the nurse at work and the chip was still in there and started corroding and scratching his cornea, they told him he was lucky because it almost cost him his eye ! ya'll please wear them, i know they can be a pain in the ass, but in the blink of a eye you can lose it. I wont go on but I've had many times I would of lost mine if not for wearing them ! PLEASE BUY YOU A CHEAP PAIR AND USE THEM ATLEAST WHEN DRILLING OVERHEAD AND CUTTING METAL AND WOOD, PLEASE,PLEASE ! but hey if you dont want to wear them atleast if you lose one you still have another one !

I appreciate the post and yes, I would like to keep on seeing things moving forward in life…so I’ll be wearing these. Younger and dumber me might not have worn them.

After having my corkscrew shower I’m reconsidering having that glass of wine. Anybody got a bottle? @jjvw
i bet those arms are sore ! drilling through that steel laying on your back sucks. i wish i'd of thought about it earlier. if you have a helper you can use a cinder block and a piece of 2x4 as a fulcrum and get your helper to push down on the 2x4 while you hold the drill and pull the trigger. i was helping a game warden friend put a bellypan on a tractor once and we had to drill holes upside down in 1/2 in steel plate, i watched him red faced and about to blow out a nut and walked over and threw a cinder block down and grabbed a 2x4. he asked what you gonna do with that ? having laterally drilled millions of holes in every type metal known to man (titanium, unabtanium, cantafordium etc...) i know how to read the shavings coming off a bit to tell how hard to push so not to stop the drill motor and not to just burn up the bit. we made quick work of it and didn't kill ourselves..... sorry wish i'd of remembered that earlier and saved you some pain !!!!

Those would let so much crap in my eyes I had to upgrade to something that tries to seal to your face like these:

yea those are good. the airline I worked at had many different styles they would GIVE us just to get people to wear them ALL the time ! I need bifocals and they even had those. I retired 18 months ago and still wear them all the time to this day. but I'm just glad the OP had some and used them (y)

Lol. It’s all good. I didn’t have much trouble. It helped having some good bits and stepping it from 1/4 to 1/2 inch. I also used a little oil, but the water inside the frame came pissing out of the hole while drilling, which put a stop to that idea real quick.
