How should I build a Jeep Wrangler TJ?

I currently have 33's on my ranger
33s are a perfect fit on a budget. Knowing that try to find a TJ with 3.73s and save having to regear. TJs had a "Big Wheel" option which included the 3.73 ratio. And the TJ is so much lighter, more compact than the Ranger they will feel great. 35s will break the bank as you keep replacing broken parts. 32s are a good budget tire too.

Further down in the description it says Rocky Mountain edition.

It does, I didn't really think about that, I would doubt an SE would be any sort of special edition. In fact, looking it up there is an old article that says it's based on the X which means it certainly is a 4.0L. In addition to that the article states it's even got a Dana 44 in the rear! Pictures don't seem to show a switch for a locker, but nevertheless it's still a great thing to have.

@jacob13 you should buy it... now. I don't know how pricing is up there in Canada but down here if all is in good working order then that thing would fetch a great price.

Thank you, I am thinking of making a road trip to go get it. I think the main reason it hasn't sold yet is because it is on the island. It is a pretty good price, only rocky mountain edition on the market in BC, 1 of 10 Tjs

I read somewhere that this forum gets a percentage of stuff bought from amazon; is there a link for a good 2 inch lift kit?

what size lift do you think for 33's? Also, what lift in specific would you recommend?

The 2” OME HD springs (2933 and 2942) + a 1.25” Savvy BL, some Rancho 5000X 2-3” shocks and some bumpstops would get you set up for 33’s in the cheapest way possible with lots of options, a tried and true build. That would cost around $750 for the lift and $900 for the 33’s

I live on the Island and am looking for an automatic TJ for the wife.
There are a few on Kijiji . . . . nice black Sport in Vancouver.

No no no,don't do all that !

Man , you can't take all this good advice ...that's crazy .

Do like I did , buy the first one you see with big tires , pay a premium price , find out it needs new tires , suspension and a lift , then attempt to regear it yourself , screw that up, and end up like me , laying in bed at 11:45 at night, with the Jeep in the shop getting regeared by someone who is probably laughing at what you did , and tell people how to set up their Jeep. While you do all that , THEN get on here and find out you are as lost as last year's Easter egg....

If you like that , boy have I got great advice on all kinds of stuff for you.

Damn right I didn’t need all that “extra” money anyway.

I have read a lot of forums about lifts and it seems like I would also need to change the angle going into the transfer case and people say the best way to do that is the sye thing. Wouldn't this build still need that? Also, what about the control arms I read about so frequently and the track bar? I don't want to mess anything up

Lol, exactly why I would like to plan everything out first. Now you have a great story though

You can get vibes with 2” OME. If you do you can drop the transfer case ($10-15), get a 1” MML ($115), or do the whole SYE/DC thing ($550). I have 3” of lift and a 1” MML and no vibes.

You will not need control arms at 2”. YOu really have to be 3+ to need them.

You may need an adjustable front trackbar to center the axle ($200). Some people do, some people don’t. And a rear trackbar relocation bracket ($20)

Other than that, maybe some extended rear sway bar links ($25).

All this is in my build thread if you read through.
