Should I buy OME or other brand coil springs

Here's a trick for those who have linear rate coil springs installed. If you know the spring rate and free length of your springs, you have the ability to closely calculate the sprung weights of your Jeep.

Once you figure out the sprung weights, you can look at any other linear rate coil spring with published rates and free lengths and predict with pretty good certainty what the lift height will be on your Jeep.

A spring with rate of 100lbs/in will compress 1" for every 100lbs placed on top of it.

If that spring has a free length of 10" and is then compressed down to 6" with a weight placed on it, then you know that weight is 400lbs.

Now place that 400lb weight on a 200lb/in spring with a free length of 10". What will the compressed height be?

I'm thinking of using OME 2934 and 2949 springs with a 3/4 inch spacer in the front. According to the DPG website these are 2.5" HD springs. I think I want to side on the error of heavy springs because I definitely don't want them to sag.

Probably their own. I had OME springs and shocks from OP. Replaced them with the Rancho 5000x for a big improvement. You could always just put them on Ebay to help offset the cost of the Ranchos.

There is no way Im replacing Old Man Emu shocks with Rancho (It doesn't make sense). I'm not saying there is anything wrong with Rancho but OME has a proven track record (very highly regarded as one of the best on the market) . The Rancho 5000x is considered a cheaper alternative to the OME. I know that EMO uses there own springs in their kit. I'm asking which ones. They offer many different spring rates.

Ome shocks are firm riding shocks at least the ones I have.

The springs don't care about the shocks. And OME's shocks won't always be the best fit for their own springs. Measurements matter before brand names.

The old OME Nitrocharger shocks were well liked it their day. I had a set. The ride was pretty good and their measurements were (and still are) unique. The valving changed about 5 years and the reports haven't been favorable. If they weren't so expensive, I might have tried a new set just to see how they are now.

I realize the springs are a total separate animal and independent from the shocks. Shocks determine ride and springs determine height (for the most part).

I'm asking which springs come in the OME HD kit???
Is it the 2934 and 2949???
I want this information so I can gage my estimated amount of lift compared to others that have purchased the kit.

Have you installed the OME coils that came with the kit you bought? If you do, then we can figure out a more desirable spring with far less guessing.

I purchased my kit without the coils (as stated in the original post). That is the reason for this post to determine the best ones with the parts that I have.

If you are looking for 2 inch springs I have the Procomp 2 inch springs which I run those with a 1 inch spacer up front and half inch in back, a 1.25 inch body lift, mml and 33s and it looks and performs great without needing a SYE/DC driveshaft.

looks like they are $260 total now so not sure if they are cheaper than ome

I really like this setup @starkey480 . Nice job! What fenders are you running there?

By the way @Marc McKinley i installed the RC 2.5” coils and got 3” lift front and back, no roof, stock bumpers, no winch. Sorry to throw that in, I know it’s hard making all these Jeep decisions :ROFLMAO:

My spring list says the HD coils are 933 and 942.

My instinct is that for 2.5" lift you probably want 931 and 940. The are the next step up from the HD coils, followed by 934 and 949.

I can appreciate your point of view and the fact that you already have the OME shocks. But I have them too. And they are sitting in the back of the garage because the Rancho ride so much better than the OME. You may like a harsher ride. People that do often say "sporty" or "better road feel", but for me, I would rather say "smoother" or softer". And that is what the Ranchos provide. I'm in no way dogging on you. I used to drive a VW Rabbit and liked it. My buddy had the GTI Wolfsberg edition. He thought mine was too soft and I thought his was brutal. Enjoy what you drive. But I'm old now. The softer the ride the better now. When I was a teenager it was air shocks jacked up in the rear of every car I had. That what a HARSH ride.
