Offending my skinny white American girl daughter (or am I a racist?)

I don't even listen to the blithering idiots that scream racist. That word is so over-used as to become meaningless. I now automatically assume someone is not a racist if they are called a racist. A stupid twerp in a supermarket told my wife and I that the word oriental was a racial slur. I promptly told her she was a f-ing moron.
Context, do you even context bro?

If my helper is fumbling around under the hood looking for a bolt he dropped in the dark and I tell him to stop being a squinty eyed oriental and go get a flashlight, I'm pretty sure I used oriental as a racial slur.

Yep, they are also the “trial by Twitter” folks (aka guilty until proven innocent) and the ones who will complain because a guy in a Peloton exercise bike commercial gave his wife an exercise bike for Christmas, so he must be trying to insinuate she’s “fat”. 🙄
Seriously though people need to grow a pair, you guys know the ellen degeneres show? I remember a while back they made a joke about something and it involved them photoshopping her holding onto usain bolt's back when he was running. Everyone shit their pants and started calling her a racist and such, even though usain was okay with the joke anyway. They made her do a big apology too. People can be absolute garbage sometimes.

I don't know which is more pathetic. The fact that you know who Ellen is or the fact that I do.

I was hoping you could keep up.

I dont know, but all I remember is seeing that picture all over the news and how it was such a "terrible hate crime"
Ah. The "news" there's your problem...

It's nice not paying an extra $130 a month for someone to try to mislead me so they can sell me stuff I don't need.

Okay, please do not get offended and I mean no harm. Let's make a list of racists slur in this thread so that everyone is included and we do not single out anyone. Maybe we can all laugh about it when it is all said and done.

Just because I see it online or on Television doesnt mean I believe it. I was curious what had happened and when I did my own research I found out that usain was fine with it. Like I said before though, people really need to grow a pair

So the wife went to the grocery store last night and when she came home she said, "The only thing I couldn't get was lettuce", and "The lady at the check out told me the Chinese restaurants buy almost all of it every morning."

The 23 yr old daughter, currently staying here to avoid Covid-19 from her apt mates etc said, "Don't worry mom, I'll go in the morning."

So far, so good.

This morning I'm checking out this forum, she comes downstairs, and my son says something about her trip to get lettuce. She responds,"Yeah, I'll go some time this morning."

I think the store opened about 1/2 an hour earlier and said, "You better go soon, you never know how many rickshaws the Chinese loaded up and pedaled away."

Daughter, "Dad! Stop saying racist things!"
Me, "In China rickshaws are everywhere and Chinese restaurants are owned by Chinese people..."
Daughter, "Stop! Just stop saying racist things!"

I would probably not mention rickshaws too loud in a Chinese restaurant. Oh, who knows, maybe I would.

Would I avoid using the term in general public? Ha! How is that even a question?

Will I use it again in this straight white American male adult's house? As long as there is a reason, definitely! Heck, I just typed it here a couple times.
My daughter is the same.
My son in law asked, Bill do you bait her?
Me ...... Heck No, you have no idea how often I bite my tongue.

No I got ya, I'm just saying that TV and news has gotten so bad that I just can't watch most of it, because they waste my time and money and they aren't informing me of anything, just trying to keep my attention for the next commercial or ad, depending on your platform.

I'm getting so tired of the constant hysteria over every single subject. I'm not going to tune in to watch a baby cry.

Is that what all of that was about? I completely ignored it. Absolutely amazing.

Like I said earlier about the ellen thing, People need to grow a pair, but what I really can't seem to wrap my head around is why are people getting offended at something that's not even directed towards them? The media directs so much hate and bitterness against each other

It's just a trick to get your attention. You can be offended or amazed that anyone can get offended by almost anything and it can snowball, because it's not a technical subject and so we can all chime in with something like twitter, which just gives a voice to anyone and typically used by those that should shut up and learn more about life.

I knew people were ridiculing but didn’t exactly know why. It happened to pop up in a commercial break during a show I was watching.

After I saw it, I thought people were ridiculing it because the acting was horrifically cringe-inducing — ‘cuz damn.

“First day! I’m nervous! Tee-hee!”

You’re pedaling on a bike in your living room, lady. STFU.
