Picking up where I left off

You've done more wheeling in the last 2 months than since I've seen you do since I joined this forum :ROFLMAO:

Clearly, AZ was a good move and selling the silver one was the right call.

Moving to Arizona is honestly one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life.

In all honesty, I just didn’t much care for the wheeling in Oregon. It wasn’t enough to make me want to get out, and the weather there is so exceptionally shitty that it’s almost always muddy, you always need a top, doors, etc. You only have 2-3 months out of the year where it’s really nice, and in addition where we lived I was over an hour and a half away from any decent wheeling.

Here where we live in Arizona I can drive 15 minutes and be at these places you’re seeing in the video. Well, the staging area at least.

I am very happy I kept this one. Listing it for sale was a momentary lapse of judgment. I'm honestly not sure what came over me.

The silver one would not have lasted long out here 😂 there’s too much fun to be had in the rocks

I don't have any gripes about the way it wheels either. I can't fault anything yet other than the wheels being really friggin' hard to turn in the rocks.

@starkey480's seems to wheel just as well as mine, so it would be interesting to find a place where we could really put the mid-arm to the test and see if my rig makes it any easier. Probably some sort of a very steep climb I would imagine.

How often are you guys greasing the zerks and Johnny Joints? Wondering if this is something I should be doing after every wheeling trip or what.

Zerks I just do once per year or whenever I remember honestly since I don't drive the Jeep that much. Every oil change would be fine.

The zerks on the JJ's aren't of very much use. They don't really do anything. You have to take the joint apart to grease them which is pretty simple if you get the tools from Currie. I found that my JJ's with the stock Currie grease were a little dry after about 18 months and maybe 8k miles or so.

This is the tool you are referring to I assume?

Have you used it before? Can it be used pretty easily while the joints are still attached to the arm under the vehicle?

@ToddK, do you know when the joints were last looked at and if they were packed with grease.

I knew the zerk fittings on them were pretty much useless.

I have both the 2" and 2.5" tool. One for the upper joints and one for the lower joints. I just take the arm completely off to take them apart. Sounds like it would be a pain in the ass to do it laying under the vehicle versus in a vice. Bolts have to come out anyways.

I believe Blaine recommends Red N Tacky for JJ grease. It is what I used and I'm hoping it lasts longer than the stock Currie grease.

Don't let them get too old. My trackbar JJ was jacked after 4 years and maybe 35k miles. The bolt was seized into the joint and the joint would not move at all without a hammer beating on it.

I think for the JJs he prefers the redline CV-2, but I don’t know the major differences to suggest it matters more than knowing Currie wants a moly grease and redline includes that in the description!

Ah, I forgot. I think the Red N Tacky is better for driveshafts. I have tubes of both. Have to check which is in the gun since I never bothered when greasing my joints :censored:

The uppers in the front were a bitch to reach without taking the control arms off so I would start with those because I couldn’t grease them as often/easily. All the others would usually take one squeeze of grease every few thousand miles. That grease gun I put in the Jeep for you before it got shipped has the recommended Redline CV-2 in it

Glad to see you finally getting that thing out and stretching it’s legs! I think the more you get it out and the more comfortable you get wheeling it youll be glad you chose to keep it.
