Sub Enclosure Recommendations

More "I got a jeep!" and now I need to make it my own questions from me.

My jeep currently has a not so great fitting truck subwoofer enclosure in the trunk. It holds dual 10" subs. The box is not in great shape since the trunk leaked. It also really was about 2" too deep so its warped the back of the seat and sits way too close to the tailgate.

I want to make this better. Ideally, I'd get *some* trunk space back and be able to use both of my 10" subs. What does the wisdom of the crowd say here?

First, I wouldn't do 2 X 10" if you want any storage. I'd do 1 8" in a small enclosure. If you must keep 10's, do one only. You don't need 2 for a TJ.

As far as enclosures go, different subs need different sized boxes. You should go according to the sub specs, not really according to the space you have.

I wish someone would try out the 8" kicker tube in a tj. Can lay down or be placed upright, has an 8" kicker sub and 8" passive radiator in a small package. They also have a 10" version. I have been thinking about it for awhile.
I have a kicker 10 in a single box know that needs replacement.

You'll have to buy shallow mount sub enclosures for under the seat or custom make something. I liked my two 10" subs behind the seat. There's very little room for anything back there anyway.

Nice. I forgot about you. Think you said you worked at crutchfield at one time. You have any insight on the kicker tubes?

Yes I did. Those bass tubes work OK. I didn't like the muffled sound when they are behind the rear seat. They sound better on the floor behind the front seats. I sold mine for that reason. Also, if you don't buy the amplified ones, you need a really good amp.

I am no audiophile but I added the sound ordnance b-8pt which to me is a decent sounding 8" sub with a built in amp. Its currently on the floor behind the drivers seat. Im sure there are higher quality enclosed units but this one is slim, takes up very little room, and pretty darn affordable.

I recently put in an atv tool box, I may try and mount the sub to the back of my box with rubber isolators to get it off the floor.

i went with this shape in the back of my LJ because it gives me about 2.4 cubic feet sealed and when the seat is laid down its mostly flat in the back.
fits 2 rockford fosgate P3 12" subs but you could go way shallower with a good pair of shallow mount subs.

its 11" tall 33" wide and 22" deep
id go slightly less deep and make the carpet groove deeper next time though.

Maintaining our limited cargo space was important to me though.

Is this the factory sub in the center console? I don’t have a sub and am looking into how to add one without losing Carlo space.

I was considering this box but also considering to just make my own box to have rear facing subs? How are you liking the bass output of this box? and what JLs are you running, i was considering the 10w3

I ended up taking the cheap route. Just ordered this Pioneer sub yesterday. Reviews seem good for what it is. It has a built in amp, so one less thing to deal with. I don't have a back seat, so hoping it fits behind the front passenger seat.

I use an amp for my four speakers (tucked under the steering wheel) and have a powered Pioneer sub in the rear… amp is inside it… if I need to remove it I just merely unplug it… Pioneer TS-A3000LB 12" Preloaded Subwoofer
