Antiseize is irrelevant variable, if it was there, my scenario would not exist.
Savvy used to having something and then removing it because people don't know any better, or lack of instructions, is a separate issue which explains why they don't any more.

At very least, hex shape is a comfort feature that is very useful for when situation ask for it.
The hex and the flats aren't needed. Comfort isn't necessary. And yes, flats would make things a little bit easier, except that people misused them.

Save machining? Cost savings?
There aren't many vehicles that I encounter that can be hand adjusted or disassembled after simply loosening a nut or bolt.
The reasoning applies to all types of arms.
 
i pegged and messed with both joints side by side.......what i think i know is.

the JJ is a barreled ball held by 2 poly sockets...the MC joint is a barreled ball surrounded in a rubber compound.
the JJ moved about 16* while the MC joint got 17*.
the JJ moves freely and will sit neutral in any position while the MC has to bend the rubber and it takes about 15-17ft# to hold it at it's max angle.
the JJ can wear out but an MC joint can rip apart if they aren't kept lubed.


i have questions about a compound that takes 17# to bend .........like how does my bushing stay centered with the weight of a jeep on it.

After reading more of this JJ vs MC beef, i started to wonder the same thing.
Eventually, with simply time, that rubber with stretch from pressure and start to sag.

I also started thinking about age of MC joints. Fresh out of the press im sure they allow crazy angles and are elastic enough to handle it with minimal effect on their structure. But say, year worth of road trips between humid Florida and blizzards of Colorado, that include a dozen offroad adventures... Rigidity of rubber to allow return to zero, and hold that zero as axle want to move side to side, i think is no longer there.
All people that have complained about axle misalignment associated with MC joints now makes much better sense.

The alternative now for disassembly after a little corrosion will be a vice grip. No misuse in that.
 
Savvy midarms Now have hex’s machined into the arms. I believe it had something to do with too many retards were complaining they couldn’t get the jamb nuts tight without hex’s/flats.

they are absolutely not needed. But if enough retards complain, apparently you can change their mind.

As far as the hex versus round arms. It’s really a non-issue…

I bought all 8 Savvy double-adjustable control arms. I installed them and adjusted my front and rear pinion angles by hand...

No tools needed as long as everything is prepped properly. I took off each JJ and added a more uniform coating of anti-seize on the threads…

Just assuring that the hex bar is truly not needed…
Early on and maybe again not far in the future, the Savvy arms had flats on them to turn and hold them with a wrench. More than one customer assembled them without anti-seize and then used a wrench to adjust them one at a time longer or shorter under the vehicle. That locked up the threads in the aluminum and ruined a joint and an arm. I messed with a couple trying to get the joint out. I started warming it up while turning the joint. I got it to the point that I twisted the end of the arm off with a section still stuck on the threads. They removed the flats so folks would stop doing that.
 
Having messed with each also, I'm curious about the installation of these. For the MC joints, I had to do nothing to center them during the installation, but ensure the joint was parallel with the mount (i.e. the barrel self centered). During the installation of the JJ's, I had to manually center the barreled ball at ride height, to ensure they were in a neutral resting position. I'm not sure if this was something I needed to do, but it just sort of made sense. Did I overthink this? To be clear, I'm not saying the MC joint is better because of this, because it isn't. I'm simply curious!
The joint barrel nor the ball cares where the other is as long as they are roughly aligned with each other on opposite ends of the arm. A ball is a ball, what does it care?
 
So at ride height it doesn't matter if the jj housing is perpendicular with the barrel? And, it's okay for one side to be say 15 degrees off center, as long as the front and rear (on the same arm) are in the same relative position? Just, making sure I understand what you're saying!
Matters nary a whit. They can be fully rotated until the joint barrel is almost resting against the side of the mount and they just don't care because it doesn't matter. The only reason you move them to "neutral" is because you think it is where they live not where they actually live.
 
How do you tighten the jam nuts on the Savvy arms if there's no flats on the sleeve to hold it in position to keep the opposite joint from getting skewed/rotated during tightening? Do you put a wrench on the other jam nut and hope they both get tightened equally?

(I have no dog in this fight, just genuinely curious.)
It is actually very easy. Use a flat blade prybar and pry against the inside of the mount to rotate the barrel of the joints until both are resting against the insides so they can't turn any further when you tighten a jam not. Hold the arm with one hand so you can feel it turning, snug one nut down, move to the other, keep snugging until they lock enough so you can heave on them. It is the alternating back and forth to work them against each other that is the basic answer. It doesn't take much to lock the arm down to the point you can put a floor jack under the end of the wrench and flat get after it. (not required at all, but you can)

Got it. What does matter is that both ends of the arm are aligned. Like I've said before, I'm not opposed to learning new things!

It is cost cutting but not in the disparaging manner that satisfies your sensibilities. The cost cutting came about through not having to warranty an arm and 1 or 2 joints after the customer seized up the joints in them. Not cost cutting of the machine work to do a couple of wrench flats.

Ten minutes with some words and a piece of paper to teach folks how to tighten jam nuts would certainly be cheaper than machining a fucking hex.
