Which SYE?

so im saving for a SYE rn and I need to know if I should go for a super short or standard length?
I have a 3 inch lift and will be installing a tummy tuck down the road,
what are ya thoughts?
remember, money is tight for a 15 year old

I prefer the SYE as short as possible. Gives you a longer driveshaft. But you'll have to deal with speedo correction from a speedo healer.

I personally believe the advantage of being able to recalibrate the speedometer using just a normal speedometer gear with a standard SYE kit outweigh the minimal benefits of a super-short SYE for only a 3" suspension lift height.

My standard length SYE kit on my previous TJ worked fine for all my suspension heights from 3" to 5.5". A SSSYE eliminates the speedometer gear and require that an electronic speedometer calibrator also be purchased and installed.

I do get the benefits of a SSSYE for a taller suspension lift height but I wouldn't be pushing it for a 3".

Why, what is so hard about a digital recalibration box that makes it less than great? It is a different way to do it but it certainly isn't difficult at all.

The OP also mentioned a tummy tuck down the road. I feel a SSSYE will better serve him if this comes to fruition.

I can't think of a single valid reason not to run a SSSYE on a TJ except cost and if that cost matters overall. Wait until you can afford it.

Or put another way, I don't know anyone who has a Super Short that wishes they didn't and no one wishes they had a shorter rear driveshaft on a TJ.

I did my SYE this spring with a 4" lift. Have zero complaints, but if I had it to do over again I would go super short. Same reasons as have been stated above:

• I have a re-gear in my future so I didn't change my speedo gear at the time. But I haven't done it yet so my bigger tires makes my speedo wrong. I would've been able to fix it electronically with the SSSYE
• I had driveline vibrations with the stock upper arms after my SYE, required adjustable upper arms. It's possible the angle would've been good enough to not require the adjustable upper arms.
• I took a fair amount of damage on my skid & trans pan last time out, so I'm looking into tummy tucks. This will likely mean I need to go SSSYE

JB Conversions is the one you want.

I did a regular SYE, then installed a TT and was having driveshaft bind. A supershort fixed that. I always tell people to go with a supershort from the beginning.

Just to clarify, the speedo-healer used to electronically correct the speedometer is recommended but not required when going with the SSSYE. It is also an additional item you need to purchase - not included with the SSSYE. I have good intentions of eventually getting around to purchasing one but haven't spent the money yet. For the time being, I rely on other methods for monitoring my speed.
