Cooling system question

Was just going to do a cooling system flush but my TJ decided it would develop a leak right before I ordered the flush fluid (for once it was noticed at home and before I bought other crap). So now I’m replacing everything.

For radiator I’m going with:

Probably just some generic for hosing

For thermostat:

And for water pump I have found that 68382489AA is supposed to be the correct part#. Odd thing though, if you search for that part number on rockauto then you find a water pump that has the part number 4626054AF up top and the AA part number listed below like a description.

I’m also considering replacing the heater core but am dreading taking the dash off, and don’t know what brand makes a good one since I hear you cant get OEM anymore. Suggestions?

Your radiator, thermostat, & water pump are all correct. That's what I installed recently on my '99 & everything fit. If you look in the parts catalog (available for free in the TJ Resources sub-forum along with your factory service manual) it lists the 4626054 #. You should be good to go with that combo.

As for the heater core I just installed a unit from Performance Radiator, some guys here on the forum have been having luck. The only thing that annoyed me was instead of the removeable support clamp that the factory uses to brace the inlet & outlet pipes the unit I got had a clamp that was welded on which prevented it from fitting inside the HVAC case. I just cut it off & used the clamp from my old core. It's only been in for a few weeks so I can't comment on reliability just yet.

I also ordered an evaporator at the same time & replaced it even though the old one looked fine figuring I might as well since I went through the ass pain of removing the dash. There are a lot of good writeups on taking the dash out, it really isn't that bad of job. It probably took me around 8 hours total spread over a few days, just take your time & keep track of all the hardware.

Thank you soo much for this reply. Thats very strange about the heater core support clamp. Was it only an issue because you have AC? My Jeep is a heater only one.

No, I think it was just a workmanship issue. Looked to me like they put it in the wrong spot.
