What are your plans for head and limb restraints?

forgot to mention but a hans device
and what Blaine said wrist restraints, never knew of them till he mentioned them
basically everything what the man said on this thread regarding about the restraints

So you’re gonna strap yourself in every time you go for a drive?

this is where the deal is "broken" on safety regarding daily driving
But the answer is no, For daily driving im only gonna use a 5 point harness , But On the trail is where i would strap up, 5 point harness,restraints, helmet ect.

The annoyance of daily driving a 5 point means it won't be used and that's worse than the stock arrangement.

You'll be real tired of daily driving a 5 point harness by the time you can legally drink. 🤣

Agreed, In my little mind i would want some harnesses i.e from PRP since they have a something "simple" that uses a buckle/buckles to making putting said harness quicker and worst comes to worst i can have the stock seatbealt inplace which defeats the whole purpose in a way of having the harness
in which ive seen people do that and use the stock seatbelt if they're being lazy, since one would just wanna get their burger and large fry and come back home or whatever

Hell one day ill probably shy away from my Lj with a cage and harness and drive me another vehicle and you wont see me around 🙃....

That's mainly the problem. What happens when you have a "lazy moment" and get into a serious accident with a roll cage, stock seatbelts, and no helmet?


I've watched a couple minor TJ rollovers on Youtube. I noticed that the rear portion of the stock cage holds up pretty well, but the front tubes bend inwards almost instantly. So if I did anything, I'd want to beef up that section first. I've yet to see a solution that I could trust, and safely use without a harness/helmet.

Yeah,anybody has their times where you are too lazy or tired and weak minded to do anything in this case the harness

Yeah that's what I've seen as well,people use the stock b pillar and keep the rear portion as well,I sure Nate from Dirifestyle(on youtube) did the same and kept those parts of the cage

But yeah it seems that way that there won't be any solution that you can depend on without a harness and helmet, guess I'll just trust the factory airbag I guess,would a harness make things worse for dailying? I'm curious since I don't know how far the airbag can reach with a harness to protect you.....

Looks like I will just have to mitigate my risks and proceed with caution like many of us already do🙂

I’m not against aftermarket seats/harnesses. I actually plan to get some eventually (keep stock belts ofc) bcs a) the stock seats are uncomfortable af, and b) I want some more “hold” when I’m off camber.


The problem I see, is for the harnesses to be effective, I assume they must be pretty tight. I wonder how that restricts movement and viewing ability offroad, over stock seatbelts.

I don’t know, just haven’t used them enough before.
 
In all my years of paying attention to cage discussions for a Jeep, my thought is that it is an all or nothing endeavor.

We already have crash and rollover protection.

Any of these partial reinforcements leave too many compromises. Some create greater risk than it not being there.

A proper functional cage is an extensive system that drastically changes the vehicle and it includes a specific set of bodily restraints to protect the occupants from the cage itself.

Yeah this is very true,I wheel with other people I meet and get spotted but sometimes...most of the times I wheel alone and ofcourse I need to see where I'm at,where my tire is what rock is it on top of,will it fall off and put me in a rut ect.

You and I both on the harness situation...

So long story short if I were to have a cage,harnesses,restraints I would be all good on the trail which is kinda my main concern
But for daily street driving with just the harness I'm possibly putting myself at greater risk ?

I'd like to see if it's out there,to be able to fix a weakness without posing greater risk!
If I could pose less risk that would be great 😁

I've had my Jeep on it's side. What little damage occurred would not have changed with additional cage stuff. I have also caught myself reaching out to stop the flop. Somehow. The instinctive reaction to do so is strong.

I have also seen more severe rolls where injuries resulted. More cage was not or could not have been a meaningful saving factor.

In my observations and reasonings, restraints seem to be as important, if not more important, than creating a reliable protective container for the occupants.

Now you get to predict the future. Which will potentially be more deadly? The trail accident or the crash you have on pavement?

I did the same thing.and yanked my hand back as fast as i reached it out
