This is a "down the road" kinda project, but I think it will be fun.

A friend gave me a 4.3 Vortec V6 out of a 2002 blazer. It only has 60k miles on it.

Its pretty easy to adapt a ford T-19 to a SBC bellhousing. Actually way easier than trying to adapt a T-19 to and L134. So over the next year I may slowly rebuild both and they will eventually end up in the flat fender.

a 4.3 vortec weighs about 50# less than a L134.
The 4.3 is about the same length as the L134. Obviously a lot wider. And maybe a little less height.
A 4.3 with a mild cam and a little porting can easily put out 240 hp... thats 4 times the power of the L134 and its doesn't mind higher RPMs.

I really enjoy driving the willys, but I will admit its slow enough to cause anxiety. Sometimes its really hard to keep up with traffic. And not just on the highway. Sometimes around town a little hill can slow me down to 15-20 mph full throttle. When everyone else is doing 35-40.

SO anyways, it would be a little monster with a engine swap. About 10 pounds per horsepower.
I guess a V6 in a flatfender has been a thing for a while. I recently met this guy on a club trail run in OR (the Oregon CNT event on the Mcgrew trail). I'm no expert on this era of Jeep but I think he said it was a '42. At some point, it got a Buick Dauntless V6 and also had some odd looking early d44s.

A search says this is a 160hp motor. That's better than the 60hp L134 flathead "Go Devil" you have now but way down vs the 4300 vortec you are planning. Guys who frequent the thread about other cars ( https://wranglertjforum.com/threads/car-pics-too-cool-not-to-share.59109/page-1924) like @Squatch, @ColoJeep, @BlueC and others could probably tell me a lot more about either of those V6s.

The little I know about them is they were based off of one of Buicks existing V8s (not a nail head) and used some of the same parts, like the distributor (pistons and rods too IIRC), which creates a distinctive "odd fire" sound with the position skips. Basically, they just cut off 2 cylinders from the V8. With a 225 ci V6, it must be cut from a 300 ci V8.

A Vortec 4.3 puts out around 190 h.p. NET vs the 160 and 60 h.p. gross of the older engines . The real game changer is they're even fired and balanced.
It's a beast with around 250 lb. ft. of torque @ 2800 r.p.m. The good and bad is now you would have fuel injection , so you need an ECM and F.I. fuel pump .
@duffer would likely have some good things to add to this conversation . He has a real badass CJ-3 B with a beyond stout SBC . Truth be told , it's my favorite Jeep on this Forum , but I'm a hot rodder at heart . Either of your V-6 choices would be good , for very different reasons .

I think Buick had a non-nail head 300 early-mid '60s. I may be wrong about that.

My buddy had a 66 Buick special with a 300 it was definitely a nailhead . Starting in 68 with the 350 the small blocks weren't nailheads anymore .

That flatfender is awesome!
Guys have been swapping in v6s in flat fenders for a long time. The swap isn't anything ground breaking, but should be a lot of fun. Its been sitting in a garage for the past 10 or 15 years.

I went to a salvage yard the other day and got an intake manifold, spider EFI, vale covers, distributor... all for $79. I'm going to use the accessory drive from an early 4.3, the old v belt style. This version of the engine shares most of its architecture with a SBC, not a LS/LT. It does have a balance shaft, MPFI, and the upgraded heads.

I held off commenting on this one because I wasn't sure if my memory was failing or not in regard to what that V6 was based off of. I thought I remembered being told many, many years ago that it was based off of Buick's aluminum block 215. After looking into it online, I found at least one thing that supports that notion:

*The first engine in this family, RPO code 6I, was introduced in 1961 for the 1962 model year Buick Special with Buick's 198 cu in (3.2 L) engine, the first V6 in an American car (the GMC V6 was used earlier in trucks). Because it was derived from Buick's 215 cu in (3.5 L) aluminum V8, it has a 90° bank between cylinders and an uneven firing pattern due to the crankshaft having only three crank pins set at 120° apart, with opposing cylinders (1-2, 3-4, and 5-6) sharing a crank pin in, as do many V8 engines. The uneven firing pattern was often perceived as roughness, leading a former American Motors executive to describe it as "rougher than a cob."

There was a later comment supporting what @BlueC had to say:
*The bore was increased to 3.75 in (95.25 mm), and stroke increased to 3.4 in (86.4 mm), increasing displacement to 225.3 cu in (3.7 L; 3,692 cc). The engine was similar to the popular small-block Buick V8—now with a cast-iron block and displacement of 300 cu in (4.9 L), the engine was made at the same factory with much of the same tooling.

In 1965, Kaiser-Jeep began using the Buick 225 in Jeep CJs. It was known as the Dauntless V6 and used a much heavier flywheel than the Buick version to damp the vibrations resulting from the engine's firing pattern. Buick sold the tooling for this engine to Kaiser in 1967, as the demand for the engine was waning steadily in an era of V8s and muscle cars. When American Motors (AMC) bought Jeep, the V6 was replaced with AMC straight-6 engines, but the ownership of the V6 tooling remained with AMC.

So much more than I ever thought I'd read about the Dauntless V6, as I've just never been all that interested in them, to be honest. But as someone said, I know people have been swapping them in for years. Now, my dad decided to take a different route. He had a Ford-built war era Jeep that he swapped in a Ford flathead v8 (from a '49 Ford, if'n I recall correctly). Not exactly sure why he did it. I think he just wanted to be different. As far as I know, my kid brother in Colorado still owns that Jeep.
 
Fun factoid. People often say they removed two cylinders from a sbc. I think everyone assumes it's from one end or another. It was actually #3 and #6. You can see it in the spacing of the exhaust manifold
 
Ford T19 transmission, Dana 18 transfer case.
I need a cj5 rear axle. Preferably a Full floater Dana 44. I'm not really sure what to do in the front yet

I forget if you moved you seat back. His was in the stock position and man was it hard to squeeze in behind the wheel!
