When is there not a point of weight reduction?

Could be a intermittent ignition issue? Bad coil that only shows at higher RPM's? Does it do it in any gear? Like in 1st and you rev it to 5k?

I have an auto and the only time I ever experienced it was when it kicked down to second for a good while.

With the automatic you need to get as low as possible gearing. You'd said you were looking at Dana 44 axles? I'd get 5.38 gears and also add a turbo.

I'd still try to get that issue diagnosed and fixed.

Agreed. Any chance to reduce weight or not add more than is necessary is worthwhile. I was able to get rid of over 150lbs from the rear a while back and it was very noticable both on and off road.

Would I be right to say that the minimum amount of weight to keep is that which would leave enough resistance for the shocks (esp rear) to work against and function well, and not so much that it changes the chosen ride height determined by springs and affect shock bias and travel. This is assuming we take into account passenger weight, gas etc etc

I'm a hair over 4k lbs (somewhere around 4,040) with 35s and a full tank of gas. I drive with an empty rear, aluminum skids, steel rear bumper, steel front fenders and synthetic rope. I'd like to go even lighter and get rid of the 60lb steel front fenders. I'm lighter than those I wheel with

Mine is around 4200ish last check. That's including tools and not my fat ass.

What would be a decent Weight to shoot for?

Hehehe, I'm the fat guy in the group. Last time I weighed mine it was about 5100 lbs. But that's with a V-8, 4 speed auto STaK's t-case, HP44 front and CRD60 rear axles. And steel armor and bumpers. So I'm not a good example of weight reduction.

I don't know what your engine weighs, but the LS options typically save weight over the 4.0L last I looked.

Not at all. You seem to seek it out. 😉

If we aren't including the driver, then mine isn't 4600lb, assuming the weight station was accurate.

I'm trying to keep mine around 4000 - 4500. Keep it light, keep it nimble.
