Basket's Build

How is it living out in Florissant? We are looking for a place in the springs, monument area but I want a RV garage/shop on the property and not a whole lot for sale until you get out of town.

I'm really liking it. I always compare to where my parents moved in the mountains (77 off 285 right after Kenosha pass) and I really think it's a great location. Secluded without being really far away from everything. My property taxes are cheap AF, low traffic, quiet. They take good care of the roads out here, it's weird to see potholes filled within a few weeks after living in the Metro area my entire life. The weather is also nice here it's fairly warm as far as mountains go.

Realistically I very rarely need to go into the springs even, with a Walmart and auto stores in WP, the Ace in Florissant has wood like a home depot would. Decent enough restaurants in WP or CC if you wanna go out. It took a little getting used to driving ~30mins for groceries but thats honestly the biggest change for me.

You're going to need a hitch extension PERIOD. Your camper hangs over the back of your truck way too far. This one is 18" long and with a weight distribution hitch it's good for 6500lbs. But it cuts whatever your hitch its rated for by 50%. So if you've only got a 10K then it's only good for 5K. This is one of the reasons I decided not to get a camper for my dually. I knew I'd have to have a 36-42" long extension and it really bothered me the thought of having that long of leverage off the back of my truck. It was also part of why I'd built my Redneck Toyhauler before.

Shit. So I'm really gonna be pushing the limit of the extender with the camper. Without the camper it'll be fine though. I guess it would still work at least

Maybe I'll consider selling the for one that fits the truck better. Too bad it's probably worthless after the corner got messed up. I would prefer one shorter without a shower but this is what I ended up with

I'm pointing out the Equalizer is both, incase Basket were to need a WDH.

Integrated Sway Control Provides a Safer, More Comfortable Ride

The Equal-i-zer hitch eliminates the need for add-on sway control devices and the hassle that goes along with them. With an Equal-i-zer hitch, you don’t have to worry about restrictions on backing up or a tight turning radius. There’s nothing extra to hook up or take off. When the weight distribution is engaged, the sway control is engaged too, providing your family the best protection possible.
With every Equal-i-zer hitch, you receive:
  • Weight Distribution Shank
  • Patented Weight Distribution Head
  • 2 Sway Control Brackets
  • 2 Spring Bars
  • Snap-up Lever
  • Spacer Rivet and Washers
  • Hitch Pin and Clip
  • Necessary Installation Hardware
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty

Although my super duty tows the rig fine without a WDH, I use one on long trips because it does make a difference - mainly the steering feels just a bit more precise, and a little less porpoising. It's worth the effort.

I run a version with integrated sway control like the one Ryan described (I think this one is from Reese). The sway control is provided by the additional brackets you see here mounted underneath the frame rails. This also makes a difference compared to towing without the WDH.

Looks like the Reese one is only 525$ right now. This might be one of those buy once cry once items lol

Just noticed you are looking at a utility trailer. Its still 7k but according to the website the frame size is an 1" smaller and has no supporting cross member.

The car hauler prices:

I was looking at those cos everyone said to avoid the dovetail.... Is the utility trailer not what I want for carrying a jeep?

4100$ for the 7k tilt. Looks like I'm back into used trailer land!!!!

You could buy a hitch extender now and flat tow until funds can be properly allocated. You'd also need tow bar, lights and a brake system but those can all be found on marketplace and likely sold for most of what you paid once you get a trailer.

I didn't really consider flat towing at all... I guess the biggest difference is that if it breaks down I'm still screwed lol. Might be a cheaper option though for now. Would I still need a weight distribution hitch or is it different since it's directly on the ground

The used trailer market is interesting. I find a lot that are "homemade" or they don't have a title. Which makes me wonder how many listed are stolen

Agreed lol. I don't understand how these trailers can be so old and well used and not have a title. Howwww are you driving around for years without plates on your trailer

No weight distribution needed.

You do run the risk of not being able to tow but it's not like you need a fully functional rig to tow. Worst case scenario you have to leave it at a shop and get it once fixed.

Also... I'm about to start shopping for a trailer if anyone has any tips of what to look for.

Also looking for recommendations for some kind of tongue lock/security donger

16' minimum length but I wouldn't go longer than 18' if you're only getting it to haul the Jeep & MR2 with. My 14' trailer is nice but I'd wished I'd gone a little longer.

Rick is on about 16'. Make sure it has 5200# axles if possible and personally I would avoid torsion. While they do ride/tow better they are more expensive down the road to maintain.
