I think this has been said a number of times already, but if you run a GenRight front bumper and it works for you, then that’s all that matters.

In terms of the OP looking for a bumper, he should decide what he plans to do with his Jeep and assess from there.

However, rock crawling or not, I’d still put an aluminum bumper at the front of the pack purely based off weight savings alone.

I’m just racking my brain trying to figure out how this turned into an argument and why he keeps arguing.

The facts have clearly been laid out. At that point it’s as simple as picking the bumper you want to run based off the facts and the intended use case.

Somehow though, that isn’t good though.

So I’m new to all this Jeep stuff but been reading a lot and have been learning a lot. I have read through some members build threads and I am kinda lost here.

I’m kinda lost here on the bumper situation when it comes to steel vs a aluminum one, does the weight really matter ? Does weight savings beat out the strength ?

I know I wanna do a stubby bumper with a winch mount but lost on which route I should go ?

I am a big fan of local USA owned goods, and Kurt does a tremendous job with bumpers.

KD and Fishbone Piranha are the two steelies I've narrowed it down to (KD is fairly local)
If I go aluminum it'll be Savvy regardless of wait times

I can also throw in that the KD rear bumper, while it is not tow rated due to the costs the manufacturer takes on to get a bumper qualified as tow rated, but I can assure you I have towed with KDs rear bumper without any issues. Landscaping material, dirt and gravel. Also, I live in New England where we gets lots of snow, and no signs of rust or powder coating wearing off.

Not sure why @MX952 was in such a hurry to get a Genright when he really wanted the Savvy? Did your previous bumper get destroyed or stolen?

I have waited patiently for many parts. Once I decide a specific part is what I want, I will wait many months if necessary. I can't think of anything on my Jeep that I bought because I could get it a couple months faster.

I get that Savvy might not be the best at customer service. I could really care less. I place my order and I wait. I've been waiting for a Bestop item for almost 3 months now. I could save some money and buy something inferior, but I want my stuff to last. I don't care if it takes a few more months.

Back to the actual topic, there are definite reasons to pay the cash for aluminum. It seems for many, the bumpers and light bars are the first mods. I'm one of the few that has spent $20K plus, and still haven't gotten around to replacing my bumpers. I've done two axles swaps, suspension, armor, etc.

So I have the Fabtech steel front bumper that came with my rig. It's one of the very few original parts that has remained. It's functional and works with the anti rock. I want to eventually get the Savvy, but there has not been a NEED to do so. So it will wait until I take care of all functional issues that actually contribute to my Jeep making it through the rocks.

For the rear, I have the Dirtworx steel. Again, functionality driven. Plus the Dirtworx guy lives about 30 minutes from me. I was able to pick it up and save on shipping. My Jeep came with the Rock Hard bumper with tire carrier. It worked, but weighed a ton and I really hated that tire carrier. I now have the Exogate.

So change out your bumper as your first mod if that's what you want to do or have a functional issue. I figure my Jeep came with bumpers and they work. So they will be one of the last things I get to. Though cosmetics are not that important to me. I do think my Fabtech front is pretty ugly.

in all of this I repeatedly stated the only reason I went with GR was because of Savvy’s customer service and I couldn’t count on the product getting delivered. I would still be waiting. I had the thing on order! I never said GR was better, I said that it was lighter and their customer service was awesome and what proof is there other than opinions of which is better. GR claims it’s 6061 so if that was true then I was comparing apples to apples. According to Blaine they aren’t made of 6061 and if true then maybe they aren’t the same. Although the back side of my bumper had 6061 printed on it so someone isn’t correct in this discussion and the 6061 info as well as Blaine’s failure photo of the GR didn’t come until much later in the thread.

I can keep going for as long as it takes to convince you that you are simply wrong.

I don't know what other proof you need that I know what I'm talking about but post it up and I will be more than glad to get it done.

As a designer and given free rein to build however I wanted, I would do some stuff in -0 and then get it precipitation hardened or tempered to bring it up to the T6 temper after. But, that requires fixtures and tolerable quantities which build in an expense that the market won't tolerate.

That does not make it true. You also do not have to take my word for it, go look at the fucking chart. That and we already knew they mistakenly listed the alloy. That was verified in a previous discussion where someone called them and asked.
