Warn locking hub damage: How bad and next steps?

Man I never watched TV that much, remember I grew up farming and ranching.

Day light till dark. 🤣 🤣 🤣

Not Smart enough

Well catching back up here! Had a chat with Del at PartsMike and managed to get a list together and he spent a bunch of time on the phone with me going over the axles and making sure we identified the set up correctly - so a huge thanks and shout out there. Spindles, Hubs, Stub Shafts, Bearings, Seals - all hopefully arrive tomorrow and I can start the rebuild. Has been a fun time so far getting this thing apart and getting familiar with how it all functions. Looking forward to some trail time soon! Got a bonus bit of news that I'm not crazy... there really is no fill port on my Ford 9" rear diff... Thought I was going crazy. If anyone knows a solid way to check diff fluid levels easily, without a fill port, I'd love to hear it!

Cheers

This was a quirk of the Ford 9". There were some years that the fill plug was on the housing, and some years that the fill plug was on the third member. So you could combine parts such that you have no fill plug at all. Whoever did that might have just filled it through the vent tube with an approximate correct amount of fluid. Unless there is a fill plug on the back of the housing you missed.

That's what I'd read too... While it might be more work I'd still rather have a fill hole on the center section so I could fill it & check the fluid level when I wanted...

Just make sure you understand what outers you have. Chevy outers vs. Ford. It's a matter of understanding if the knuckle is 6 vs. 5 stud, respectively. They're different stub shaft lengths.

maybe someone more knowledgeable than me could weigh in on how bad an idea it would be to drill and tap a hole either in the housing or third member, or if you really need to have someone weld a bung into the housing.

Probably fine to drill and tap, people do it all the time to add ARB airlines

I'd drop the center section out and then find out what the measurements are for where I need to place the fill hole and I'd drill it and tap it. As others said it's done all the time for an ARB port this is just a larger hole.
