Your First / Old Jeep Thread

View attachment 213103View attachment 213104View attachment 213105My first was an XJ. Then it was a 94 YJ that was totaled a year later. Couldn't do physical work for almost 4 years. Mj was next. Had it until about 4 years ago. Sold with 135,000 on it. Took too many years, to get back into a Wrangler again. These are the only pics I have left of them.
Love the Comanche. I wanted one so bad when I first started driving but that was in 2006, and by then any Comanches left in New England were rusted out pieces of junk.

Not mine but my dads. This is the Jeep that got me started. It was also the vehicle I learned to drive stick on. He recently had it restored but I couldn’t find any old pictures of the beater it used to be. It’s a 76 cj5 with a 304

This is my first and current Jeep that was given to be when I got my license. It’s a 2001 Sahara with a 4.0L and a 5 speed aka my pride and joy.

I'll never get tired of seeing CJ's! Nice Sahara too

I see more MJ's down here than I would think. They kind of blend in with the rest of the vehicles, because they look so different stock. Funny how a few years change things. If I knew then, what I know now.... I would have kept it. Sold it really cheap to someone who could take care of it, at the time. Was glad to find someone really excited about it.

it morphed into this when I made the bumpers and let my wife pick out colors. Kind of like a John Deere tractor at this point. Installed a t176 and d300 at this point to to get rid of the t150/d20 stock stuff.

I was sidetracked by this for a while, but refocused on the jeep tj now. I found owning a jeep for 20 years I go through phases.

it became a toy like 5 years ago so I’ve been tinkering again. Been doing sensors and mechanicals now it’s time for the fun stuff!

My wife’s cherokee trailhawk has been a good suv... quirky 2.4 liter but it gets 25 mpg and has been all over the PNW Spartan races... thank god we’re out of that phase!

Missing photos of the 87 and a 2002 grand cherokee in there somewhere.

My first vehicle and Jeep, 1999 TJ Sport. Got it in 2006. I was a absolute idiot for selling it for a Ford truck🤬

Later I got this 2003 TJ since I totaled the Ford on black ice somewhere around 2010 or 2011. I liked this TJ but it had some weird engine problems that my mechanic and a Jeep dealership could never get right, traded that after a few years.

Somewhere in 2012 or 2013 I picked up this 2011 JKU and hung on to it till 2017.

Brute 2.jpg

She's had to be on hold for a while... this year's not been great but... will get it finished soon. She's changed a lot over the years but she's still my first car, my first Jeep, and will keep it forever.

2 Years ago added this one to the collection - loving all the memories it's bringing back from the pre-Brute days. Looking forward to building it up bigger and better than the other one used to be.

My first jeep and first car I owned here in California was a 2001 XJ Cherokee classic. It was 2wd and was also white with tan interior. It had 100k on the odometer when I bought it and being young, stupid, and in the military in Southern California, I pretty much ran it into the dirt. Then I picked up this TJ. It had a 2.5L and I like road trips and bigger tires so the 4 banger wasn’t cutting it for me. This pic is in the parking lot where I met the seller the day I brought it home.

I'm a big fan of white TJs now, didn't like it when I had one but I miss it. What kind of engine issues was it having? My 02 had some emissions issues that no one could figure out either

That Brute is AWESOME. The angle of that picture really shows it off too. What wheels are those? AEV or are they the Mammoth Boulders?

That does look good though, from the last picture it looks like a really clean build! I like the tan top.

If you don't mind me asking, were you Navy? Thank you for your service!

Thanks! It was a fun rig, just no oomph on the freeway. I was Marine Corps then Navy after that.

The white kind of grew on me after a little bit lol My problem wasn't emissions related, if I remember right, its been like 9 years now, but mine was a combination of electrical and engine related. I remember driving home from work a few times and the dash would start lighting up like a christmas tree and the engine would run really bad. Not sure if that was it going to limp mode or what. Had to get it towed both times. Think the dealership said they found a few shorts and "fixed" it. A day later it did it again and was towed back to the dealership. I got rid of it shortly after that. Luckily my LJ hasn't had any problem like that lol

Thanks!

They are the AEV Pintler Beadlock Wheels in 17" - meant for the JK bit on the TJ using G2 adapter spacers for now. Long term plans involve doing a JK (or now, JL) axle swap to get a bit more width and strength at which point the spacers will no longer be required. I also changed out their traditional yellow AEV centre caps for their more recent style 3D tooled logo caps. It's shade lighter than the wheels but... that's pretty low on my priority list of things to worry about, I still like it.

Apologies for the tired dirty looking tires - they are very old ones just to size everything up and be able to move it around workshops etc., brand new rubber will be going on it once it's finished.

I've also got a set of JK Hutchinson Rock Monsters that were originally gonna go on the Brute, they will go on the other TJ now. The Hutchinsons are an amazing wheel but.... there's something about the AEV wheels that just looks right on the Brute. Eventually though they'll be on the same tire size so could swap between them.

I wonder if it was some sort of computer issue. Either way, you've got an LJ now so I'd say that's an upgrade!

I didn't realize the AEV's looked so similar to the Mammoth wheels. Or I guess, the Mammoth wheels look similar to the AEV wheels, they're very sharp, I wouldn't mind having a set. And Hutchinson's are nice too! I agree though, the Pintlers complete the Brute's look.

Yeah there is a lot of similarity. The AEV wheels are discontinued now though as they focus on the newer designs for newer models. They still do the Pintler wheel, but not the Pintler Beadlock, so your only hope of finding these now is second hand or if you're lucky some dealer somewhere with new old stock.

One big difference though is the Mammoth wheels are very concave looking, sorta deep dish but not, where as the AEV design is very flat in comparison. I'm not sure how the actual offsets and widths compare, but the Mammoth wheels certainly appear to be wider, but part of that might just be an optical illusion as the lug nuts on the AEV design are more recessed from what I can see.
