Improving the cooling on our TJs

I can't explain why I do something any clearer while at the same time explaining that you are welcome to do what works for you, more than welcome. Go find someone else to fuck with, I'm not your guy.

It was perfectly clear, but my original question remains, does your experience include the Mopar branded Motorad. In other words do you still have good experience with mopar stats within the past 2-3 years.

But that’s ok, instead of answering a simple question, I’ll abuse Amazon and buy a few thermostats, throw them in a pot of hot water and see if they work. Then the Jeep and see how they work.

See below. I think he has worked on jeep tj's within the past 2 to 3 years...
I can only do what I know. What I know is I've installed 50 or 60 Mopar thermostats, I have 100% success with them. You do whatever like, if I work on a cooling system with a deficiency, I know how to solve it.

But am I right?
You just don't like the answer I think.

I bought a Mopar thermostat that is branded motorad with a jiggler valve this week.

In today’s world, most of the brands do product management, program management. Quality control and launch products that someone else built for them. It is an OEM vs ODM relationship.
Main reason why Mopar and not something else, is that I trust Mopar that they perform quality control on whatever they sell under their brand. Thermostat is not a complicated piece, they have been manufactured for at least 70 years. The problem is how to keep consistent quality, low defect per million etc.

No, I am open to any answer. What I was trying to understand is is Motorad is the same junk that I remember from the past or did they improve with the acquisition of Stant and keep their quality.

I have a Mopar Stat, Motorad UltraStat, “Stant” Superstat [AKA Motorad in a Stant box) and a Motorad high flow (just curious)

… and for the lowest cost

He was pretty clear and simple that he buys Mopar thermostats and has had a 100% success rate. You aren't going to get a different answer than that. Buy a Mopar thermostat.

I thought my question was simple too. Apparently we’re all to dumb to read each others messages.

My question was and still remains, and I’ll rephrase … Are the most recent Mopar thermostats still providing a “100%” success rate?

My last thermostat purchase from the dealer was a Motorad in the Mopar bag.

My experience with Motorad is they’re garbage.

I don’t like motorad

I like Stant Superstats

Stant is gone

Motorad is everything now

We have read the messages. I just think you want to hear him say the mopar motorad stats are not good.

He has answered this question already. He said his success rate has been 100% using Mopar stats. Motorad has been a making Mopar stats for a while now. One could make that very simple conclusion that he has installed a motorad branded mopar thermostat and has had no problems with them.

Yes the motorad branded mopar stats have a jiggler valve. At least for my 2005 I just purchased. He has also stated he still drills a 1/8 hole next to it to help save time with air bleeding.

Either way a Mopar one is $30 and a regular motorad is $4. Buy both and look at them, compare and try them if you are worried about it.

deal fellow TJers, I am looking into my TJ (4.0,42RLE) in which I am running new radiator, new coolant, new Hayden fan clutch, with properly working AC, and a winch mounted in the front. Thermostat and water pump seems to operate as expected, so don’t believe that I need to replace them.
What I see is that in stop and go traffic it gets always beyond 210, the same when parked in idle, even at the evening, with 87F outside.
I am in Houston area, so temperatures here easily reach 100F during the day. Also, as we all know the summers are getting hotter, so I am thinking about how to improve the cooling.
I have one step already on my schedule,. Which is adding Derale cooler for 42RLE, which will prevent the 42RLE from overheating.
Other step that is planned is to install louver (Poison Spyder), that will help to reduce the heat soak and heat buildup in the engine bay.
But, I am thinking about enhancing the engine cooling, using the following;
To tap into hot coolant line that go into the cabin, add a 3 way valve, that enables to route t he coolant into cabin or to additional cooler, and additional small radiator, with electric fan. I want to put somewhere near the Derale cooler for transmission, so that it takes away the heat from the engine Bay Area.
Before I jump into anything like, wanted to hear the opinion of experts here, I am sure that a lot of folks through about it before.

I know newer model fords would turn on the cooling fan at 221 degrees. If you are really concerned about it, look into evens cooling system fluid. I know people who have used it and were happy with it. It is a major undertaking all the water must be removed for it to function properly.

At this point my plan is flushing the engine with prestone and thermocure, Mopar radiator and Thermostat, stay with Hayden 2771 clutch, not to change the water pump (it works fine, tested the flow), exhaust gases in coolant tests, then drain it completely (engine block drain as well), pressure test positive and negative, and then to suck in the coolant through the tube. This is how factory fills coolant, will do the same, this is the best method to verify that there is no air in the system.
The lover also goes in. If it does not cool well after all all this, exhaust back pressure test, if still not then small auxiliary electric radiator (found a heater core for YJ with 6 inch electric fan to cover for idle.

Have you verified the gauge?

Thanks everyone for this thread, I've learned a lot from it. I am in the exact same boat as TexasTJ2004. My radiator failed and wanted to go Mopar. I've gone ahead and purchased 55037653AC (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/MOP-55037653AC). I see this post by mrblaine with suggested adapter fittings, but it is not clear to me what I will need to do or how they attach to the trans oil ports on the radiator. Are these the only parts/fittings needed? I've not really worked with transmission line fittings before, they look kind of specialized. If someone can elaborate on this further I would really appreciate it.

Dave

Where in AZ are you?

I assume that I will get my radiator earlier than you. I will update how to install and which part I needed.
My radiator will arrive no earlier than august 4th. I assume that yours will be even later

Thanks! My order status has it showing up on the 5th. But I'm doing the water pump, thermostat and fan clutch too. And some of those aren't scheduled for delivery until the week of the 8th. Radiator goes back in last so timing should be good to shamelessly copy your innovation. Cheers, Dave

Good point on the water pump. I am thinking maybe I should replace mine as well, I am already tgere
